Fort Weyr - Flower Gardens

This fairly small portion of garden has been dedicated to the art of flower-growing, with everything seeming to radiate outward from the small fountain that's been erected in the very center. Flowing outward, like the rays of Rukbat, are paved paths that are lined with various things — from bulb-grown flowers to flowering shrubs. Any rhyme or reason is for the gardeners to discern; it is, to the most casual observer, a place where flowers appear to randomly erupt in vivid bursts of color through the year.

Carnation pinks, daisy whites, and rose reds typically dominate … but, from time to time, seemingly exotic flares of daffodil yellow and iris blue and orchid purple may make a memorable appearance. Pansies and other such flowers also peek their heads out from time to time, if only to add unexpected glimpses of color where green and brown dominate. The air is thick with the perfumes of flowers as they bloom, the commingling of scents being potent but not overwhelmingly so.

Around the stone fountain in the middle are a few low benches, with everything appearing to have been made with an eye for the abstract. The fountain itself is a thing made of stone and overlaid with broken bits of tile and glass to make an eyecatching mosaic in a rainbow of hues; the benches are sturdy, made of well-treated wood that's been carved with stylized floral patterns and stained a rainbow of hues to reflect as much.

It was getting colder in Fort everyday with Autumn having set in at last. Just in time for Kairhys to return to the region of his birth from a place with nothing but tropical weather. The weavercraft apprentice has this evening, dropped himself off in the flower garden, having found one of the low benches to sit upon. He's got on his jacket and scarf, but their both open to reveal the thin gray shirt he wears underneath. His gloves are half sticking out of one jacket pocket, a tome looking book open upon his lap. Despite the pinks and purples cast across the cloudy sky, Kai has the glow lamps set about to ensure that he has lighting even with the setting of Rukbat eminent. He's half hunched over the book, there is a graphite pencil in one hand and a small eraser in the other. He's just, doodling away. Doodle. Doodle.

Miki has been a familiar face in the gardens of late, no doubt attempting to enjoy the last few weeks she would be able to view the flowers. Wrapped in a coat and scarves, the gloved rider shuffles her way into the gardens, looking rather like a tiny bundle. Overall, the woman looks quite uncomfortable with the amount of cold-weather clothes she has on, though that doesn't stop a smile from lighting her face as the flowers come into view. Eagerness graces her strides as she makes her way close to the bench Kairhys is sitting on, crouching down next to it and grinning at the flowers. The boy is unnoticed for the moment, her attention on the plants. "Mmm, I'm here to pick a few of you darlings today, sorry….but maybe not you guys." Miki considers the flowers in front of her for a few seconds before twisting her head around to consider a few more. "Oh!" There's a quick smile given to Kairhys as he is finally spotted. "Sorry, didn't see you there."

So enthralled is Kairhys, that the boy doesn't notice that his private time has interrupted by an intruder. The soft scratching of pencil to paper isn't enough to attract attention to him, and neither is his silent breath in and out. Even with the wisps of warmth escaping to the chill of the approaching night. However, when Miki crouches down beside his bench to admire the flowers, brown eyes do lift from the sketch, shifting their attention from it to her. There's a single blink in her direction, brows lifting upwards, but he doesn't alert her to his presence. Instead for the moment content to watch, head tilting vaguely in one direction. When he is finally spotted, a friendly enough smile stretches his lips upwards, showing some teeth in the process. "It's all right, no harm done." he says, setting down his pencil for now. "I'm allowed to be here, right?" It might seem foolish to ask now, considering he'd likely been there for quite sometime, but he probably didn't see the harm in asking.

"Hmmm…." Miki tilts her head to the side, as if considering his question, before giggling and shaking her head. "You're fine. Unless you plan on digging everything up. Then I'd have to send you packing, mister." The term used in a mock threatening way rather than an actual reference to his age. Conversation now begun, Miki stands, waddling the few steps towards the bench and plopping down. Blue eyes glance towards the notebook, and the tiny woman perks with curiosity before eying the knot on the boy's shoulder. She leans in slightly then, attempting to peek at the drawings. "You're a weaver? But you're drawing flowers?" Legs are suddenly brought up to her chest, hugging them to herself as she continues her peeking. "Or maybe you're using the colors as inspiration or something? My brother does that."

Kairhys chuckles, "No, not planning on even touching them if at all possible." he says, winking at the woman and appearing quite pleased when she gets up and wanders over to drop down onto the bench he'd chosen for himself. When she peeks over to the book, he's kind enough to tilt it so that she can see what he's working on. Beautiful detailed drawings with perfect shading cover the page, and probably several others. Considering the dark pink hue of his nose and cheeks even over the tan he sports, signify the length of time he's been out just sitting and drawing. "I know. Not particularly very manly either, but…" This gets a shrugs and a grin, laying the book out flat over his lap again but not quite ready to pick up his pencil again. "Friend of mine said the exact same thing two turns ago. He always figured I'd join the harpers, but I don't know, I rather enjoy the Weavercraft. I design clothing and tapestries for the most part. Leave it up to other people to make them. So I'm always out and about, sketching and doodling coming up with new ideas for copulations." A pause, "Your brother, is he a weaver?"

Miki shoots the boy a quick wink and grin in return as he holds the book over, but soon her eyes are occupied with the drawing, roaming over it eagerly as she compares the real ones to those in the gardens. Once she's finished with looking the green rider lets out a low whistle and smiles. "You're pretty darn amazing. Could probably do that on the side if you felt like it. For now though…." There's a significant look towards the gloves in his pocket and his unbuttoned jacket before eyes slide back to his face. "You're going to catch a cold…want my scarf?" There's perhaps a bit of plea in her question as she tries to shove the piece of clothing off on him. She even goes so far as to begin unwrapping the thing, only to pause and nod at the question about her brother. "Mhm, Aniki, he does a lot of designing too. I'd probably like your clothes better than his though. Tapestries too though, huh? I guess it makes more sense that you're drawing un-clothing related things then."

Kairhys inclines his head for the praise, offering the woman a soft smile. "You're very kind." He does look for a moment, rather sad at the prospect of doing his art on the side, and the pencil is extracted and tucked away. Then she's trying to shove her scarf at him, and he leans back a bit, holding up one end of the one he already had hanging around his neck. "I'm good, I've got one right here. I had to loosen it and undo my coat because I was overheating. I know my face must be red, but I swear I'm not cold." Chuckling he takes the scarf she was trying to offer and folds it up, slipping it into the pocket of her outer most jacket. "If you're warm, you should shed a few layers there. It's never fun waddling from one place to the next." When Aniki's name comes up though, the boy stops dead in his tracks. "Let me guess," he starts, brown eyes darting to the woman's knot and spying the green cord woven into it. "You must be Miki."

Miki laughs and shakes her head, "Nope, just call it as I see it. Then again, most of the artwork I see is over elaborate or the work of the littles, so I might be a bit more appreciative than most." The rejection of her scarf gets a slight pout of disappointment and the rider sighs, resting her head on her knees. "You look cold though….don't get frost bite or leave your fingers out too long though. When you go inside and they start to thaw it'll burn." And by the sound of it, she's experienced that more than a few times. "No…no you don't understand. I'm being watched. It's all fine and dandy if I'm taking off a layer or two so someone else can be warm. Otherwise Sohnyu's going to tell on me….and then I'm going to end up with a headache from getting nagged at…." Talk of headaches stops as the boy does indeed get her name right and she looks over at him, blue eyes clouded with confusion for a few second before the suddenly widen and she pops her head up while snapping her fingers. "Ah! You…you're Kairhys then?"

Kairhys laughs, a wide smile nearly splitting his face in half, "Maybe, though being something in the middle is just as good I suppose. Not overly elaborate but not the scrawlings of a child." he teases, but then just shakes his head. "I swear to you I'm not cold, and if I thought for a second that I might be I'd be happy to take a few layers off your hands. Who's Sohnyu….oh. Dragon. Gotcha." The weaver then flips back several pages in his book, pages and pages of pictures so realistic they almost threaten to leap right off the page. People, places, every day items. It doesn't seem to matter, if the eye can see it, it's probably made it into the boy's book at some point or another. "Here it is." Having found the picture he drew of Aniki, Kai hands the book over or at least leans it again so the woman can see the drawing he did of her brother. He finished the shading of the hair, every lock in place. That self-assured grin on his face, and even the cockiness captured in full. It couldn't be anyone but Aniki. "Yes, Kairhys. That's me." he says with a nod, taking the book back and then closing it completely, slipping the leather straps around their fixtures to hold them closed. "And here I thought the guy couldn't talk about anyone but himself." Another tease, even if it was half serious.

Miki grins, chuckling along. "That's true. Though it's sweet when the littles draw. I've got a whole wall in my weyr dedicated to their scribbles." As her layers of jackets that are once more refused earn a reluctant nod of her head. "Alright….really though, if at ANY time you feel cold. Let me know…..and yeah. Sorry Sohnyu, Sohnyuoth. I'm just used to shortening my name. Pair her up with Aniki and those two make the most overprotective mother hens in all of Pern." The green rider shakes her head, stopping only when he begins to flip through the pages and eyes widen as begins to take in all the pictures. There are no comments as the pictures flow past her eyes, only staring and a whistle or appreciative noise here or there. "Oh!" The single syllable escapes her lips as Miki spies the picture of her brother, taking the book into her hand and leaning into examine it closely. "This….wow!" A few more minutes of staring ensue before Miki finally breaks her gaze away from the drawing and back to the weaver, smiling warmly. "And I thought you were good before. This is amazing! Shards…." She gives the book back as he reaches for it, leaning her head onto her knees once more and rolling her eyes. "Oh no, most definitely not. You see. /You guys/ get the talk about himself. /I/ get to here the details of every minute of his life. Luckily I sometimes get to here about interesting people, like you….when he remembers their names."

The books is set off beside him on the bench, nicely and neatly tucked up against himself where he can at least feel where it is without having to hold onto it all the time. He's protective, but not insanely so. Kairhys smiles and nods about the wall of little's drawings, his expression growing gentle and perhaps even a smidgen envious. He seems to be following the conversation just fine, even when it abruptly shifts back to being cold and dragon names. "It nice to have people that worry about you and love you like that. Don't you think?" he asks, randomly really, but he lets it go after that, interlacing his naked fingers together over his lap. He takes the further amazement at his drawing in stride, honestly appearing to enjoy sharing them with people as much as he did doing them in the first place. Whether that was a blush on his cheeks for Miki's excitement or just the cold was certainly debatable. Now with the book put away, he only thanks the greenrider softly again for her enthusiasm but lets it fall away after that. Especially as the conversation shifts back to Aniki. "I honestly didn't know what to do with him. While he is quite attractive, I'm not sure I could of put up with the pillow talk before during and after. The boy certainly doesn't lack self-esteem." Did he forget that this is the poor woman's little brother? Maybe.

Miki giggles, "I guess. After 20 or so turns of caring for them and a bunch of other littles, I guess it's sort of nice to be taken care of….then again, it also means I'm suddenly lacking in the freedom department. More so since Mr. Narcissist got here. Not that I'm complaining about his sudden appearance either. Love him to death, no matter how off the wall he is." Eyebrows raise when the weaver begins talking about her brother in a rather not so innocent matter, considering the boy before her for a few seconds before bursting into a small fit of laughter. Loosening the grip on her legs for a second, the rider gives Kairhys a bit of a nudge and shakes her head. "Do you go around telling older sisters how beddable their little brothers are often?" Miki seems more amused by the comments than anything and she drops her legs down, leaning back on the bench while supporting herself with her hands. "Boy? I think he's older than you by a few turns. But yeah, no need to tell me that. I've already heard the stories from the girls and boys he gets with. Half of them just keep on gushing about his looks. Tch, annoying little things. But he's not so bad really. He's got a serious side too. He's got a bit of a complex about his looks though, so he hides behind that a lot."

Kairhys listens intently to what Miki has to say, brows lifting occasionally and even chuckling a few times especially when Aniki is brought up. Course, when he's reminded quite literally with a nudge, that this guy was also this woman's younger sibling he definitely colors and clears his throat. "Ah, I'm sorry." he says, apologetically of course, scratching idly at one cheek with the curl of one finger. "And not, not generally. I was just so thrown off by his personality I sort of forgot who I was talking to." A wince for this, and the weaver looks away, gaze wandering off over the flower garden as he leans back some. "I'm sixteen, but only just. He looked around nineteen or twenty-ish." A shrug for this, not dismissing it so much as it not apparently mattering all that much to him how old Aniki really was. It didn't change anything surely. "While he is very pretty, it's the mouth that sours it. I might of been interested otherwise…oh there I go again. Sorry." Another wince, his face becoming far more serious, accompanied by a heavy sigh. "I'm not like I'm coming across. I like to play, but most of the time I don't mean it. I try to be careful not to seriously lead anyone on…hmmm…yes I did get that impression that there was more to it. I know a guy a lot like that back at Ista. Very pretty, but instead of covering it up by playing it up, he tends to punch people who look at him the wrong way."

Miki snickers and shakes her head at the boy as he reddens, giving him another nudge. "Don't worry too much, I'm pretty used to it. Who do you think gets to hear…" There's a slight pause and she shifts her tone up a few pitches,"'Oh, he's soooooo hot. What kind of things does he like? Does he like cake? If I bake him a cake will he like me?' I mean, I don't actually care if you or anyone else comments on his looks. I'm used to it. And I'm not going to deny that he's pretty, he knows it, I know it, most people know it. I just hate when they fall unconditionally in love with his LOOKS. They think he's perfect or something." There's a sigh, perhaps slightly frustrated, though there's a small laugh at his age. "Sixteen, huh? I'm starting to feel like an old lady. But yeah, he's twenty." She doesn't say much else on the subject though, raising an eyebrow at the violent boy the weaver mentions. "Really? Guess that's another way to deal with it. Aniki doesn't really care how people look at him. If they want to bed him just say the word and he'll do it. Causes problems for me. But he doesn't /seem/ to mind. He's pretty egotistical, I won't deny that, but part of the time it's just a show. Keeps a lot of people at a safe distance. He learned that early on."

"Most people are initially attracted to someone by their looks. Only way to remove that from the equation is to actually not look at them at all, and that's not exactly realistic." Kairhys says, rubbing his hands up and down his own thighs as he speaks, suddenly struck by a shiver. At this point the weaver dons his gloves and zips up his jacket, wrapping his long woolen scarf around his neck and hunching in some, as if he had suddenly realized that it was cold outside. The sun had set and the stars were peeking out here and there past the thick clouds above with the threat of sleet or rain beginning to scent the air. "I learned this from a friend of mine, that we're all hard wired to find a mate. What we look for is something that develops possibly at a time when we're far to young to realize it or even remember it. But being human, is what sets us apart from other living things. We bring emotion and love into it, which complicates what is in the end, just the instinct to procreate." He smiles then, turning his head back towards Miki, a sort of sadness lingering there just so in his eyes. "Course, he's perfectly straight so what does he know hmmm?" With that he picks up his book and stands, brushing off his backside in case anything got stuck there whether it be dirt or dead leaves. "I'd like to see what's under the ego, otherwise, you can promise your brother this is one person who isn't interested in bedding him. Pretty is all well, fine and good, but I'm into using people just to get off." That being said, he inclines his head again, in a very polite perhaps even formal way. "It was very nice to meet you Miki, enjoy the rest of your evening, I should be going. Early day tomorrow." Another soft smile for the greenrider, and Kai is off, headed back through the kitchens.

"Hmm…I understand that. It makes sense too. When we're young, there aren't so many complications to consider, just feelings." There's a raised eyebrow for the bit of sadness in his expression and a sympathetic smile. "He won't understand unless you try and tell him…" The rider shakes her head at the comment on Aniki though, sighing as she sits up once more. "You can try your luck with that. To be honest, I don't know if it's very reasonable to expect you'll ever see it, but it'll be healthy for him if you guys ever hang out again. And don't worry. He won't jump you either. That much I know." Miki giggles once more, offering up a warm smile and a wave as the boy departs, any politeness and formality returned with only an amused friendliness on her part. "Have a good night!" Even once he's disappeared however, the woman doesn't move, instead laying down fully to look at the stars above while mumbling to herself with a grin. "Boys…such complicated creatures." And there she'll remain for some time, at least until Sohnyuoth or Aniki decide to give her a scolding.
