Weyrling Nightmares

Fort Weyr - Weyrling Barracks

The rounded ceiling of this set of barracks is high enough to accomodate growing dragons. Lining the walls lengthwise are sets of stone couches and cots for their riders. At one end of the room are cabinets holding supplies for bathing and oiling young dragons, as well as the weyrling manuals. Against the opposite wall is a table with scraps of leather and leather-working tools. Tacked up on the wall is a diagram of riding straps.

It may be the middle of the night, but Lunetta finds herself fully awake once more. As her side upon the stone couch is her Blue Sateerth asleep and seemingly unaware of the nightmares which plague his Luna. With a groan the girl untangles herself gently from beneath the foreleg with the turned claw and frowns in annoyance, rubbing a hand over her eyes.

A'mar is also awake, staring at Caldoth as if he can't believe his eyes. It has been nearly ten days since the hatching, but he's still getting used to everything. Lunetta's groan pulls him out of his trancelike state, and he smiles slightly. "Early, isn't it?" he says, in a whisper so as not to wake any of the other weyrlings or dragons.

Lunetta frowns, her gaze distant. "Have you been having nightmares since the Hatching? Hearing voices?" Her gaze slips over her elder brother (who allowed himself to be renamed R'bat by his Bronze Achillath) but even that gives her no comfort and she returns her gaze to Tal—A'mar.

A'mar shrugs slightly, glancing to Caldoth. "Not that I can recall…" he says, with a curious frown. "I hear Cal's voice sometimes when I'm awake, but that's cause he's talking to me."

Lunetta shakes her head. "It's not Sateerth… It's everyone else." Her eyes looks somewhat haunted and the bags around her eyes give her a resemblance to her Blue which might be funny otherwise. "They're all hurting, or calling out for help…"

A'mar stretches, and yawns. "No, I've been sleeping really well, although I keep dreaming about food." he says, with a shrug. "Particularly breads and things." he frowns slightly, glancing to Caldoth, who seems tiny in the stone couch that is large enough for adult dragons.

Lunetta blinks. "You're dreaming about bread and I'm haunted about cries for help." She glares at her Blue. "Want to trade?" She can't prove it, but since the voices and nightmares began _after_ she entered into the lifelong contract she can guess at the source.

A'mar frowns at Lunetta. "D'you think it's the dragons?" he asks then, wide eyed. He looks to his sleeping Caldoth, then shakes his head. "Well, if it is the dragons, maybe he doesn't know he's doing it?" he suggests. They are still very young, after all.

Lunetta reaches out with her foot and nudges Sateerth with the tip of her boots which she sleeping in due to the rather large and open nature of the Weyrlings quarters and the fact that she doesn't use the cot. The Blue shifts slightly then opens his large eyes and turns his head to look towards her. Sensing her mood he gives a croon of comfort. "Stop it." She states firmly.

A'mar frowns slightly at Lunetta and Sateerth. "Um, he doesn't mean it. If it even is him." the former Talmar says, somewhat tentatively.

Sateerth's eyes whirls slowly with confusion and concern. He's just woken up after all, and his Luna is difficult for some to understand most days. But _he_ understands and he rolls over and gets to his feet. He pushes his head up to her chest and warbles an appology. He hadn't realised that she could hear them too. After a beat, Lunetta's face relaxes slightly. "It's not him, but it is." She tells A'mar. "He's sending me the voices, but they don't belong to him."

A'mar frowns in confusion at Sateerth, then blinks at Lunetta. "Um, okay. If you say so…" a pause. "So, whose voices are they? And why is he sending them to you?"

Lunetta shrugs, her eyes still somewhat clouded. "I don't know… But I wish he'd stop. What can I do for them?" Sateerth lifts his head to meet Lunetta's eyes. His coon is like a stream of cool water over a mild burn. It reduces the sting of the hurt, but doesn't treat the hurt itself.

A'mar frowns at Lunetta helplessly. "I don't know. He's your dragon, can't you ask him to stop doing it?" he says, uncertainly. He doesn't know much about being a rider, he's only been one for ten days.

Lunetta frowns and sighs. "I do, I did…" She shakes her head. "But he can't seem to do anything about it when he's alseep and I don't want to sleep when he's up…"

A'mar frowns slightly, then shakes his head. "Maybe he'll grow out of it." he suggests optimistically. "Or you'll get used to it."

Lunetta gives A'mar a bemused smile, though only one side of her face manages to twitch up in the effort. "Get used to nightmares?" She shakes her head. "No. I need to find out how to be slightly less useless, and then maybe I'll have the right to some rest." Her Blue nudges her with his head and warbles at her self-reproach. "Well?" She asks him firmly. "Am I any use to anyone right now but you? And even then, anyone would feed you — once they get it into your hard head that you have a right to food, that is — oil you and wash you."

A'mar frowns at Lunetta, then glances to his own blue Caldoth, who appears to be stirring slightly. "You're plenty useful." he says, simply. Though he doesn't elaborate, more interested in keeping an eye on the slowly waking Caldoth.

Lunetta raises and eyebrow and then sits down, not really having the energy to spare to stand or debate the point. Sateerth lies down behind her, his still small body lending support.

A'mar frowns slightly at Lunetta and Sateerth, yawning tiredly. "I hope you get something figured out, cause you've gotta sleep some time." he says, before curling up with Caldoth and going back to sleep.

Lunetta nods at A'mar's comment and continues to sit, Sateerth lending support to her back. Both of them have dark rings around their eyes, but only Lunetta's are caused by the constant nightmares she's had since Impression.

Sianne slips from te cot next to the couch that holds the sleeping gold, shoulders are rolled before arms are stretched. "Something wrong Luna?" comes softly as she approaches the other weyrling.

Lunetta blinks and looks over at Sianne. "Nightmares." She offers simply. Sateerth gives his Luna another comforting croon.
