Painting Eggs

Fort Weyr - Galleries

The galleries are carved right out of the rock face, the rows and rows of benches rising high up into the air on a slight slant. Stone and wood benches that used to be known for offering little in the way of comfort, are now padded with cushions in Fort Weyr's colors. Placed along the railing at regular intervals are antique looking baskets filled with cheery fabric flowers. The curving walls sport tapestries in warm vibrant colors that seem to add a dash of color to the otherwise dreary stone. Where the galleries curve slightly at the ends, affording those attending hatchings or clutchings a decent view of the sands, shaded laterns offer warm lighting along the rows of benches.

Talmar is here, yup. He's got a box with him, full of clay eggs, some plain, some painted, and some only half painted. There look to be several dozen eggs in there, at the least. He's trying to paint another now, frowning down at the eggs on the sands.

Lunetta comes to the Galleries during mid-day break, her bag of sketches at her side. She's taken to tunnelsnake hunt at least once a sevenday even if she's not listed, but she did that yesterday and can try to get another glimpse of her vivid, deceptive little ovoid in the corner. Spotting Talmar's work she comes over, trying to see if he's attempted Exotic Deception Egg's recreation yet. "Hey, Talmar."

Hanna was up early so she could get her chores done as quick as possible and then spend some time looking at the eggies. As she scampers into the galleries so notices that there are already two fellow candidates here doing the same thing. "Hieveryonehowareyoutwodoing?"

Talmar grins up at Lunetta. He's currently working on the Lonely Moors Egg, although he's made several attempts at each of the others, which are in the box. "Hey, Lunetta." he responds, then waves at Hanna. "Hi, Hanna." he says, just as rapidly as Hanna just spoke.

Lunetta grins as she hears Hanna and her eyes widden as she spots the attempts at her favorite Egg. None or quite right though, and she realizes that the paper thin black lines are probably causing the poor potter problem. Or at least that's the conclusion she's come to. "I think I've met your Egg." She smirks and points down at Winds of the Chariot Egg. "I thought it was full of energy and couldn't help thinking of you, and then it put something close to the sound of your words in my head." She tilts her head slightly. "Of course, it also then started acting like some sort of bird…"

Hanna giggles then she says "Ilikethateaggalotweseemtolike thesamethings.Freedomenergyrunningfree." Then as she spies the eggs she goes "oooh thatissopretty.Youareverytalented."

Talmar notices where Lunetta's attention is, on his box of clumsily painted eggs, and he smiles slightly. "Go on, have a closer look." he says encouragingly. "Doesn't matter if you drop it or whatever, they're not good enough yet." That's why he's practicing, yep. "I touched a couple of eggs. My favourite was the Lonely Moors Egg. It seemed so happy to see me." he says softly, then shrugs. "Go on, pick one up." he says of the box of eggs, to both Lunetta and Hanna.

Lunetta slips her hand into the box and picks up each of the Exotic Deception replicas in turn. She finally stops when she realises that it's just the Gallery view from what she can tell. "You need to get a good look at this one, Talmar." She offers helpfully. Sketcher to painter. "There are spots of amber here." She points along the base. "And thin vertical black lines all over." She glances at the clutch. "As for the Eggs. I can say that I dislike the bland one. It filled my mind with smoke. And another seemed slightly bloody…"

Well hanna could not tell if Winds of the Chariot was happy to see her but Hanna knows she likes that one the best of the two she have touched. "IseemedtoreallygetAlongwith WIndsoftheChariot. IfIimpressIhopeditiswiththategg."

Talmar nods slightly. "I did get down to the sands, for a touching, but I didn't make it near that egg." he admits, with a shrug. "That's next to work on, after this one." He has done some of the eggs as seen from the sands already, just not that one yet. He continues to paint the little clay Lonely Moors Egg, with a smile for Hanna. "Slow down!" he tells his fellow candidate, with a giggle.

Lunetta pauses for a moment and then digs into the bag at her side, comming out with a colored sketch of her vivid little ovoid, all its secrets (the visible ones at least) exposed for all to see. "I know working from a picture's not the same, but that's what it looks like. At least from a few steps away.'

Hanna looks over at Talmar 'Howcananyoneslowdownwhenitishatching time.Itissoexciting." Almost hops up and down with excitement. "Ijustcannotwaitforthehatching."

Talmar is up here painting eggs to look like the ones on the sands. He's working on the Lonely Moors Egg at the moment, but he has a big box of attempts at all of the others, as well. Lunetta is showing him a picture of the Exotic Deception Egg, which Talmar is now comparing to the versions he's painted. "I see. Thanks for letting me look at that." he says, nodding at the picture. "Like I said, I'll work on that one next."

Lunetta nods. "You can keep it if you like." A sheepish grin crosses her face. "I've got dozens."

Gotta love those moments in a candidates life when one can sneak off from whatever one is supposed to be doing to do something else. For today it seems that Si is armed with nothing more then a spray bottle and some rags? Could she actually be doing some non-candidate duty cleaning? Perhaps or perhaps she's just testing out a new way to oil her firelizards, either way she's up into the galleries and moving to join the other candidates as quickly as always. "That's a nice one, all of them are from ya both."

Amanthis swings in, guitar strung across her back, and not accompanied by a group of littles. Nap time! Glee! Ama strides up the steps, whistling jauntily, though she pauses a moment to take in the little crowd. "Seems like it's break time for many of us." She teases, smiling. She slides into a seat behind Talmar, careful of her guitar, then commences to peering into his box over his shoulder nosily. "Hmmm, yes. They look very nice." She says, nodding sagely, then looks up at Lunetta's picture and grins. "Seems you have a skill outside of catching those tunnelsnakes, young miss." Sianne is given a smile and a nod, and Hanna's enthusiastic bouncing is just eyed. Aye.

Hanna does not have any replica's of her favourite egg. Though she is certainly tempted to make one out of metal. Since that is her craft, "YouhavealotoftalentfordrawingLunetta, IamnotverygoodatdrawingunlessIamworkingonblueprintsordesigns. " Then she tuns to smile and wave the the newcomers she hears arriving.

Talmar sighs in frustration, closing his fingers tightly around the egg he's working on. He messed up again. He tosses the egg into the box, and leans back. "I think that's enough of that for now." Wow, Talmar not wanting to do stuff with clay? Not many would believe it. He looks up, and waves to Sianne and Amanthis. "Hey." he says simply, frowning up at the caverns ceiling.

"And above having strong, unsuported notions about life." Lunetta agrees with a small grin. They got off to a bad start, but luckily that was somewhat short lived. Somewhat. Luna still has a hard head.

Sianne looks down into Tals box a she moves to sit near Hanna after giving Ama a quick wave "Can I have some of the ones you don't think are right Tal? I just got this idea and they might come in handy." All is asked with hope in mind as she settles in. "Any of you good with plants and all?"

Amanthis grins at Talmar. "You're being too hard on yourself." She tells him, soothingly, then nods to Lunetta. "Aye, lass." Hanna's enthusiastic bouncing is accompanied by speach even the Harper can't comprehend, so she just smiles rather blankly at the younger Candidate. Last of all, she glances at Sianne. "Plants?" She repeats back to the other woman blankly. "Not particularly."

Lunetta pauses and narrows her eyes slightly in thought as he bites her inner cheek. "Oh no." She shakes her head slightly. "I nearly forgot. Rukbat was snagged to help clear up after the sickly Blue in the infirmary and I promised to watch the younglings in his place. Luckily, I don't think I'll be late if I hurry. See you in the barracks!" With that she dashes out with a speed which would make Hanna proud, even if it's nothing close to even her most lazy burst of energy.

Talmar sits up at Amanthis' words, and frowns at the box of eggs. "I'm just an apprentice. I haven't even been one for very long." he says, frowning. Sianne's question makes him frown harder, but he shrugs. "Sure. Don't see why you'd want them, but go ahead." he kicks the box a little way, towards Sianne. "It's really a lot harder than I expected." he admits, with a sigh. Lunetta's leaving gets a wave, although he's not even sure she noticed.

Hanna beams a smile at Talmar "Ohdoyousellyourselfshort.Youareverygoodatyourcraft." Then she zip over towards Talmar in an attempt to give him a hair ruffle.

Amanthis pokes Tal in the back slightly harder then necessary. "You wouldn't be an apprentice if you didn't have talent." She scolds. "Lookit me. A harper that can only sing? I'm lucky I can do passably in other areas. You make beautiful things. Cheer up already." And then there's a Hanna missile! Zooom! Ama sits back, watching the girl warily, and only belatedly realizes that Lunetta's off. Sigh of relief, there won't be a 'discussion' today.

Sianne watches all this go on as she sorts through the box, picking and chosing this one and that until her lap is filled with several of the clay eggs. "Hanna your gonna trip and fall one of these days, I swear it. You move about as fast as you talk."

Talmar blushes, and shakes his head. "I do like to make stuff out of clay." he says, suddenly grimacing when Hanna ruffles his hair. "Ickygirlgerms! Getitoffme!" he cries, moving away rapidly. He manages a smile at Amanthis though. "I guess." he responds half-heartedly, about the talent part. He glances over to Sianne then, frowning. "See anything you like?" he asks.

Amanthis rolls her eyes as the kiddos do their germ thing. "Oy." She says on the end of a sigh, then looks critically at Talmar, prodding him with her toe sharply. Can't be too careful with germs, you know. "Once you quit being silly," she says, somewhat caustically, "you can settle down and be young. You're what, thirteen Turns old? You have Turns before you need to think about being a Journeyman. Have some fun, don't be in such a hurry to grow up." She rolls her eyes and looks at Sianne in a way that says, "Kids! Oy!" Ah, yes. It's great to have companions on the high end of the spectrum with one.

Sianne chuckles softly as she watches the younger pair of candidates with a fond smile "OH to be that young again, there are days when I'd pay good marks to be that age once more." Her words are a bit wistful and edged with a bit of sadness "Though at that age I was still afraid of being a freak because I hear them all." a finger is hitched towards the bowl to give more meaning to her last statement.

Hanna blushes at Sianne then shakes her head. "WellYouandAlyannaarelawayssaying to becareful.ButIamnotmoving thatfastjustfastenough." THen she can not help but laugh at Talmar's reaction to her ruffle. "Ohyouaresocute.Ijustwnatohugyou, don'tworrysoonyouwillbelookingforthe rufflesandhugs."

Talmar frowns. He's twelve, and only just. But he doesn't correct Amanthis, because he likes to be thought of as older. "I just wanna do these eggs. As a nice thing for the people who impress, you know? But it's frustrating, because I can't quite get them right." he frowns at the box of clay eggs. "I might have to make bigger clay eggs. But then I'd have to hollow them out somehow, because the thicker the clay, the longer it takes to dry." he shrugs. He backs away from Hanna fearfully as though she has some terrible disease. Cooties! "I will never! You take that back!"

Amanthis snorts. "Hanna, don't aggravate him." She says, in a lazy sort of way that may indicate she's used to breaking up fights. "And Talmar, don't say things you don't know are true. It's not good to lie." She grins at Sianne. "You aren't a freak. I think you're very lucky. But I wouldn't pay any amount of money to be that age again. Faranth, I remember my time in the Candidate Barracks." Shudder. "Talmar, you'll get them. We have months yet until the Eggs Hatch. You're quick-witted and intelligent. You'll figure out something." Ayup ayup. "Besides, even if they aren't perfect, I doubt that the new Impresses are going to care. I'm sure they'll be touched by your gift. But if that snot Trielle Impresses, don't give her one. She doesn't deserve such a thoughtful gift." Snort.

Hanna lets out a breath then says "Iwasnotagrravatinghim. Justtellhimthatthisisjustaphase." But allthe less shedoes say to Talmar"IamsorryIupsetyouwithmygirlgerms. SianneyouaresuchanicepersonIcouldnotimaginenothavingyouaround.Iamhonouredtobeyourfriend."

Sianne says "Hanna slow down, just a little at least." Poor Si just can't keep up with all this rapid talking, so in the end she sets the clay eggs aside and takes up spray bottle and rags. Moving to the railing she turns to one of the baskets of silk flowers and begins to spray them and wipe them off. "I'll always be around Hanna, and I'm glad your my friend too.""

Talmar frowns at Amanthis. "I'm not lying. Girls are /icky/. They want to do silly mushy stuff like kissing and hugging and stuff. It's gross!" he wrinkles up his nose at that, then glances over at Sianne. "You done with the box there?" he asks, frowning slightly. Seems he's getting ready to leave. Hanna's apology gets a frown, but he grudgingly accepts it. "Just keep your icky girly stuff away from me." Sianne puts the eggs aside then, and he glances to the other Candidate, waiting for an answer to his question about the box.

Amanthis makes a face at Talmar. "I, technically," she tells him firmly, "am a girl. Do *I* want to do 'all that icky stuff'? You bet your eggshells I don't. And when you're twice your age, come back and say that to me. Then I'll believe you." The woman stands, as well. There's a harried looking woman standing halfway up the steps, staring at Amanthis. The woman sighs, shoulders slumping, then takes a singular, sweeping glance at the eggs. "I'm coming, I'm coming. Nap time's over. See you all tonight." And she stomps off, down the steps and out to the Bowl.

Sianne looks back over her shoulder with a nod "For the moment, if I need more I'll ask you if you've got any more discards." is promised with a smile before she goes back to cleaning off the flowers. "Found a favorite out there yet?"

Hanna nods at Sianne then scrunches her nose with the effort as she slows down 'I said Sianne you were an amazingly great person, and I could not imagine not having you around. ALso I am honoured to know you and hopefully be your friend."

Talmar frowns at Amanthis, then shrugs. He grabs at the box when Sianne says she's done with it, and smiles a little bit. "I'll have plenty." he tells Sianne, before offering a wave to Hanna, then heading for the exit. "Gonna go get advice from Master Jopier, he'll know what to do." he doesn't say whether he'll be asking about the clay eggs or the 'icky girl germs'. Probably both.
