Fort Weyr - Shenanigan's Lounge
The natural walls of this cavern haven been completely covered and replaced by straight and sometimes curving walls of brickwork. There's method to the madness of covering stone with stone. It's as simple as the electric buzz in the room. New grade electric lights dot the fancy brick worked walls, with wires cleverly hidden behind, allowing more focus to be centered on the rest of the room rather than the numerous strings of wire needed to operate the lighting. Each bulb roosts in a bronzed metal flowering fixture, giving the room a rich atmosphere. Still, the walls are not the only place which has stone on stone appeal. The floor has been run smooth, the surface now slate rock, creating an imperial cast.
Beyond the actual foundations of the lounge, the luxury continues. High backed wooden chairs with padded white seats have been stationed all around the room. Between the individual chairs are benches fashioned out of the same rich wood with pillows made to flatter the cushions. There are low lying coffee tables or end tables near the individual chairs, while there's larger dinning room sized tables with chairs to match scattered as well, giving much variety to those who find themselves in the room. Decorative hangings and framed artwork has been neatly hung around the room, but to offset the meticulous method of the room, there's some pieces that give a sporty feeling to the room - such as a fishing rod or a snow shoe.
Of course, the final appeal of the room comes in the form of it's purpose; athletic competition. There are several games of darts lining the walls, various decks of dragon poker cards available, a large velvet lined pool table centered to one side of the lounge, a mat area surrounded by ropes, and an area that keeps track of all the runner races around the world via radio signal, giving constant updates on the status of the runners. Lastly, there's a bar here, small and built with brick as well. There's usually a bartender on duty willing to mix drinks during the evening hours.
Karona is circulating around the lounge, handing out flyers for the game tournament, trying to get people interested. "Sign ups are just over there, everyone's welcome! Pool or darts, take your pick!" she encourages. "Why not try both? It's loads of fun!" she notes, as she nears the handful of people already signing up for one or the other. The turn-out is not /quite/ as high as she had hoped… But really, she's just excited.
B'ky is one of those signing up, the Roc wingleader likely unmistakable in his clashing crimson and indigo leathers. The new flight jacket, with bits of grey, is unbuttoned, and gloves and goggles are clipped beside a small notebook on his belt. The man still has that tri-colored braid in his hair, dyed in bright hues to match his clothing. Pale grey eyes read over the flyer he picked up somewhere, thin eyebrow arched just slightly. He spots Karona over there, and tilts his head with a pleasant smile, nodding a quiet, "Hello," and tapping the paper lightly, "I thought I would try my luck again." Because B'ky totally wants a re-match. His gaze flickers from the pool table to the darts board, the bluerider saying, "I've not been practicing, but I hope it was just luck the last time." And he laughs gently, "Or else some of my my wingriders are going to lose a lot of marks." Oh dear, seems someone's got money on hime.
Moydeo walks into the lounge, with the flyer she had picked up as well. Seems like a while since she's been in here, though nobody said candidates couldn't be in the lounge, just couldn't drink alcohol from the bar. She moves to the sign up table, signing up for the darts. She was pretty good last time she played them, so may as well play them again. She looks up, and waves to B'ky. "Hey B'ky, you playing too?" She asks the Wingleader.
Karona snaps to attention at the very striking sight of B'ky, sketching a salute to the bluerider. "Pool's in high demand today, I'm afraid, wingleader." Very proper and respectful, yes. "But there's space on the dart boards, if you're interested? We could always play a game of pool another day?" The bets don't quite count yet if it's not pool, right? She grins as she notices Moydeo signing up. "Hey! Another for darts!" Well, it's fairly obvious, the line for the pool is substantially longer. "I'll admit, pool's more my game." Is that the hint of a smirk? /Never/. "But darts… darts might not be so bad." And, there's the bonus of practically no wait time.
B'ky is quite deliberately not looking towards the bar; he'll just pretend it's not there, really. The bluerider smiles a greeting to Moydeo, with another, "Hello," as he nods, "I'm hoping to.. not lose as badly this time," he chuckles softly, with a nod toward Karona, "I lost rather spectacularly, the last time." He'll admit it. It /was/ rather impressive. That salute from the candidate earns a somewhat amused look, though B'ky simply nods, saying thoughtfully, "I am rather better at darts." He's going to just hope, there. "A game of darts sounds lovely," and he glances at Moydeo, "Darts as well?" Moving toward the darts board, he does smile slightly to Karona, "Another day, certainly," and his gaze flickers to the pool table, though there might be a very faint hint of relief in those grey eyes. Losing that badly with a whole crowd here? Yeah, he likely prefers the darts as well.
Moydeo grins. "I kicked butt last time I played darts, and so far I've stunk at pool, so, I figure, may as well play a game I'm good at." She chuckles. Then again, last time could of just been beginners luck, so, we'll see how it goes this time. She does blink at the line of peoplee signing up for pool though. "Shards, didn't know we had so many pool players here." She chuckles, and weaves her way around the line, heading for where the darts are.
Karona never even /notices/ the bar, really. No one has ever seen her drink more than a sip of alcohol, and that even was only before she was searched. She does glance over to the pool table as B'ky mentions losing rather spectacularly. "Hey, was just luck, sir. We'll have a rematch at some point." she assures the wingleader. "It was a pretty spectacular streak of it though, wasn't it?" Is there a hint of smugness in her tone? Only the faintest. She grins at Moydeo, and nods. "Well, good luck, I guess. I've not played darts." She may have already mentioned that. It warrants a second mention, just in case. "Been alright at pool, though." Well, /spectacular/ at pool, but she still puts that down to luck. She heads over for the dart boards, though a little cautiously.
Dartboard Room
The most prominent feature of this room is the large dartboard against the far wall. Each of the five wedges is a different color: Gold, the smallest, then bronze, brown, blue, and last and largest green. A number of holes decorate both the cork of the board and the surrounding wall. Tables sit to either side of the dartboard, sets of darts lined up with mathematical precision. Unwary firelizards often perch here, though when an unskilled person is playing, they often find themselves sharply encouraged to move. Two bored drudges hang out near a refreshment table, acting as judges but more often than not just gossiping with each other. A slate hangs next to the dartboard, detailing who is playing, in what order, and what the current score is. One of the drudges changes the score regularly.
B'ky chuckles, "Hmm, I suppose I should have been practicing," but alas, the man barely has time to eat these days, let alone practice for anything. There's a nod to Moydeo, the bluerider chuckling, "I've only played a few games recently. My luck with them has never been terribly good, unfortunately." That is to say, he keeps getting his butt kicked. A quiet laugh, B'ky agreeing with Karona, "I don't believe I've ever seen anyone sink seven in a row before." Yes, it was rather spectacular, although as he picks up a few darts and steps back, he does smile slightly, "I suppose it should be interesting, at least. B'ky hasn't much of a competative streak, apparently.
Karona tilts her head a little at B'ky, then shrugs. "Well, if we have a rematch, sir, we'll be about even. I haven't had time for practice either." In fact, she's not actually been seen in the lounge at all since the candidate lesson with weyrlingmaster A'tien. She's also been saluting and sirring a lot more. "Seven in a row. That is a once in a lifetime streak of luck. I spent the game before that dancing around this one ball, the /five/." she does not like the five, the five is her nemesis. She'll pocket it, one day! One day! She clears her throat, and steps up to the dart board, nominating herself to go first. She may be more respectful to her superiors, but her manners could still use a touch up, perhaps. She tosses the dart, and looks /very/ surprised when it lands in the gold wedge. Or, indeed, on the board at all! "WOW! Talk about luck!" Yes, they were talking about luck, weren't they? Specifically, hers.
Moydeo chuckles. "I get lucky if I manage to even sink /one/ ball against some of the players out there." She says. "Some how I always wind up playing against experts, and have no chance to even practice." She sighs, though the line for pool sign up is probably a pretty good reason /why/. She blinks, and whistles. "Dang, that was the same first shot I made last time too." She says, and giggles. "Ok, my turn, I guess." She says, and moves forward, taking the shot, which lands green. "Oh well, not bad." She chuckles, and moves to get out of the way for B'ky's shot.
B'ky nods to Karona, chuckling a little and then saying, "Hm, the five? I suppose part if it may just be luck, as much as skill," he muses. The man blinks, however, and then laughs softly, "It seems you do have quite lot of luck with these games." He's smiling though, as he turns to watch Moydeo throw, chuckling again, "The last time I played, I kept missing entirely every other throw," and he looks just a little sheepish there. He steps forward to aim and then throw, his own shot following right after Moydeo's. The man smiles faintly, commenting with some amusement, "At least.. I didn't hit anyone." Ahem.
Karona nods at Moydeo, and glances back to the main lounge. "Ah, it's not so bad, if, if I can find the time, I'd be happy to teach you?" she offers. "Though I'm an average pool player myself, just… lucky. Sometimes." she shrugs, and watches as Moydeo takes a shot. "Not bad." she agrees, encouragingly. There's a grimace at B'ky then. "Yes sir, the five. Took three shots at that thing before calling it quits." A pause, and she notes, "I, had chores to get back to." Really. She wasn't giving up at all. Ignore her sheepish expression and lack of eye contact! Ignore! She blinks at the wingleader then. "Hit… has that /happened/ before?" she asks, stepping up a little warily to take her next shot. Perhaps it's that wariness, or perhaps it's more likely her lack of practice, but her next dart goes a bit off kilter there. Still, blue. "Nice." she murmurs, stepping back and letting Moydeo go.
Moydeo grins. "Oh shards, you should be been in here when Ely, Milo, Dare, and I played." She chuckles. "We injured atleast one ddrudge, scared two firelizards, and hit one man in the…ahem." She clears her throat, anybody can guess where that guys was hit. "Uh, lets just say, he screamed like a girl." She adds, and watches B'ky's shots, and then Karona's second shot. "Good shots." She says, and steps up, taking her sht, and grins. "Well, atleast I'm going up in the world." She jokes, as she steps back, lettingg B'ky shoot.
B'ky smiles faintly, a flicker of amusement in his eyes at the dislike the candidate seems to have for the five ball, the bluerider telling Karona, "Perhaps it was simply not lucky that day." Though really, he might just find that funny. Moydeo's story about.. hitting people has B'ky blinking and looking around very carefully, "I certainly hope no one was injured too badly?" He rubs the back of his neck, admitting softly, "I think I might have, ah, hit someone the last time we played." He isn't sure, however, having been.. distracted that day. Ahem. There's an approving smile as both girls hit blue, B'ky commenting quietly, "A good color." Not biased at all, nope. He does frown slightly to Moydeo, though, "Up in the world? I do hope you only mean your score." Because B'ky would never think one color better than another. Or at least, he tries not to. He steps up and throws, hitting green again and chuckling, "I suppose my mind might be elsewhere today." It.. may be an excuse? Perhaps a /telling/ excuse. And where is Avideth anyway? Certainly not out in the bowl. Hm.
Karona's eyes go wide at Moydeo, and she repeats snippets in bewilderment. "Injured drudge… scared firelizards… hit… in the..?! Oh, oh my." Possibly her mind has gone to a worse place than it probably should have. "That, that poor man." she murmurs, shaking her head slowly. "See, this is why I like pool. Sure, if a ball went flying, it could knock a man out, got a bit of weight to them, but they rarely leave the table, for the same reason: weight." That's all well and good, but that 'rarely' is a bit of a worry. "Blue's a fine colour, for a dragon," she does agree, "but in darts… there are better colours." Says the one who already hit the gold today. "Er. Elsewhere, sir?" It's not impolite if she calls him sir, right? Well, that's /her/ theory. She throws the dart again, but once it leaves her hand she tilts her head at B'ky curiously again, acknowledging the judge's call with a slight nod of her head.
Moydeo nods. "Yes, about my scores." She chuckles, and ohs. "Green two in a row, way to go B'ky." She remarks, and winces. "Yeah, I know, I couldn't believe it myself." She says, and looks at B'ky. "Not that I know of, I saw the drudge a couple days later in the caverns, her elbow was wrapped, but seemed usable, so." She shrugs. "As for the guy, uh, not seen him since, so I don't know about him." She admits, and watches Karona throw. "Seems you have luck in darts as well Karona." She chuckles, and steps up, taking the shot, and chuckles at green again. "Forty, not a bad score." She grins, and moves so B'ky can shoot.
There's a slightly furrowed brow, B'ky murmuring, "I hadn't ever considered it could be dangerous.." and he'll glance over at the pool tables. And perhaps he looks just a bit wary, now. "I'm sure there aren't many accidents," he adds softly, turning back to watch the two candidates throw, and smiling again, "I do think it is rather a lovely game. Just.. hm, perhaps there should be a wider area.. roped off.." he muses softly. At Karona's question, he nods absently, "Mm, Avideth's taken to one of the greens lately." He's not saying which green, though, even as he looks over his shoulder, frowning juust faintly. But returning his attention to the game, there's a nod to Moydeo about the drudge, B'ky commenting quietly on the man, "I certainly hope he was alright." And he grimaces faintly, likely imagining the injury to be quite unpleasant. Heh. He nods in agreement with Moy about Karona's score, "You do have rather good luck, though I suspect it may have more to do with skill, in your case." And he chuckles, stepping forward to throw the last dart, and aiming carefully. He looks somewhat surprised at where it hits.
Karona blinks a little at the dartboard still, and shakes her head. "I can't believe I didn't /miss/!" she says, finally. Meaning missing the board entirely, not just missing the gold. She did that, twice. Not that she was ever really aiming for anything more specific than 'the board'. "I hope he's alright, that, that doesn't sound at all… at all." At all what? Presumably something along the lines of pleasant, bearable, not-unspeakably-awful, etc. "Ah." at Avideth's taking to one of the greens. "Er." She wants to ask something else, but thinks better of it. "It's luck, I swear. I never, I wasn't aiming for anything but the board itself." she protests, modestly. But, it's the truth. "I, I… is that…?" she murmurs, glancing across the room. Something familiar? "I, uh. I have to go." But… but… she won, doesn't she get a prize of some sort? She slips from the room, and jogs right on out to the bowl. Does that mean she forfeits?
