Fort Weyr - Gemstone Tavern
The dim lighting by the flicker of candles lining the walls is enough to offer a view of a room decorated in such a way as to be tastefully appealing. Each piece of furniture and decoration is chosen to accent another piece, and so on and so forth, matching and tying the whole room together in a theme that's separate, and yet at the same time unified. Tables line one wall, dimly lit by candles hanging in sconces all along. The bar along the far right wall is made of richly toned mahogany, tooled by a master and polished to shine with the soft glow of wood at its finest.
Candles strategically placed add to the atmosphere, accenting, punctuating. Towards the back is an open fireplace, constantly burning with a bright light, warming the tavern on cold nights and serving as a gathering place for patrons' story-tellings. Across the room, lush pillows and soft-covered floors promote relaxation at ease. Just before the pillows is a long stage, so full of its own vigor and memory - nicks here, marks there, scuffs from footware and other things - that it's possible to imagine the shows put on for the patrons without necessarily seeing the performances.

Winter is such a great time of the year, though in Fort winter is always something different, and always cold. Abigail has made her way on into the Tavern, gloves getting tucked into her flight jacket, goggles getting pulled off with her other hand, she has just done a few long sweeps and is looking forward towards something to help warm her up. She pauses at the bar, leaning against it and waiting for the bartender to be free enough to serve her while she works on fighting back a yawn that is threatening to escape her. Sleep would be good, but seems the drink will win out on it for now.

Winter is indeed a great time of Turn… for some! With the stores still low but being carefully inventoried and stretched out from goods foraged by the rotating sweeps down South, the Weyr is comfortable. A little lean, but comfortable. Th'ero slips into the tavern not long after Abigail has made herself comfortable at the bar and he pauses by the door to scrape and knock his boots clean of the worst of the snow that clings to them. The Weyrleader is dressed in his flight gear, which means he's finally been able to coax Velokraeth long enough from Kayeth and the eggs to go beyond the Weyr's walls. Offering a few reserved nods to those who greet him as he passes, it won't take him long to spy the Wingsecond. Smiling, Th'ero will slip in to the seat next to her. "G'day, Abigail! Mind if I join you?"

Abigail goes about ordering her drink while she settles down upon a seat, undoing her jacket in the process. There is a slight pause as she hears the voice and she glances to Th'ero offering a smile and nod back to him. "Afternoon Weyrleader, and of course. Join away." She offers with a smile and friendly tone. "How have ye been sir?" This questioned while she lets her arms fold losely upon the bar edge.

Th'ero settles himself more comfortably once Abigail agrees on his request to join her. Unfastening his jacket, he will slip it off and fold it on the seat next to him before flagging the bartender and ordering a drink as well. "Thanks," he says, both to the bartender and to the brownrider as he turns to face her with a relaxed half-smile. "I've been… well. It's been a hectic set of months but perhaps now there will be some calm in it all. Kayeth has clutched fourteen eggs from her mating with Velokraeth and… Nyalle and I are working well as a Weyrleading pair. We still have the issue of rebuilding and regaining the trust of the Holds but that was known to be an ongoing process." he murmurs, keeping his voice low but easily overheard by Abigail. "And how have you been? Seems like a long time since I last spoke with you on such casual terms."

Abigail nods slightly as she listens in on the bit of conversation that is being told to her by Th'ero. She thanks the tender for her drink and lets her hand settle upon it loosely for the moment. A soft smile is seen at the talk of the clutch and how things are going. "I'm glad to hear that everything between ye and she have been going well." She didn't think it would go badly for one reason or another really. As for the part on the Holds there is a soft hum and she nods a touch at the thought. "Perhaps given some time it will work itself out." She hopes so at least. The question to her causes her to pause and she peers curiously to him, she's never been one to talk much about herself. "Everything has been going well. Breeana is growing like a weed still." This said with an amused tone at the thought of her daughter which does make her smile. "I've been rather busy as of late to go and visit So'l, though I figured his rather busy by now in all honesty so wouldn't want to take up much of his time over at Xanadu."

Th'ero's smile twitches a bit when Abigail mentions how glad she is things between him and the new Weyrwoman are going so well. Is there more to that story? No doubt there is! Things had gone bad and awkward for a short span, but now have balanced out more or less. "Breakwater Hold is on tentative trade agreements again, thanks to Nyalle and Inri. Our idea to gift them with a new runner colt of high lineage and breeding potential seems to have worked well in our favour." he explains in that same low tone and goes silent when the bartender returns with his drink. Nodding as he pays the man, he'll then take a slow and deep sip of it while listening to Abigail. "I'm glad all is going well with you," he murmurs with another warm smile that is followed by a low chuckle. "They tend to grow like weeds. It still surprises me how much Kyzen has grown in so short a time." he admits and then gives her a curious look but one that flickers with a bit of guilt too. "I've not had much of a chance either to see So'l or check on him. Why don't you go over? I'm sure he'd not mind the company."

Abigail is indeed glad on it though, she has never been known to lie on anything and this is included in that group as well. She has no reason to not speak the truth after all. "That is good to hear. I'm glad that they are willing to work with us again, and that a solution was able to be figured out on such things. Sounds like both Nyalle and Inri are working well with one another too." Which is always a good thing! A soft smile is seen and she nods to the part on their children. "They are rather good at growing quickly it seems." For the rest she leans back upon her chair a moment. "I thought on it, perhaps I could slip off for a bit of time and see him tomorrow. Would be nice to see him." She's rather missed his company though doesn't go about saying that right out.

"Nyalle is a good Weyrwoman," Th'ero agrees, "And it does seem as though she and Inri make a good team. We'll see how well things mend with Breakwater Hold. Things are still… touchy but we are on a far better track than what we were a few months ago." he goes on to explain a little further before laughing softly. "Yes, they are. There is truth behind the sayings about young children. Enjoy them while they're small. And let us hope Breeana will not require a harness too?" he muses and takes another sip of his drink. He then fixes Abigail with a long look, studying her closely for a moment. Perhaps he read a little more into that? "I don't see why Nishka cannot spare you for the day to visit Xanadu Weyr. Have you not heard at all from So'l since he's been temporarily settled there?"

Abigail nods at the bit on both Nyalle and Inri. "I'm sure they will be able to mend it rather well." She knows Inri after all and has a feeling that she can do well on the matter. A soft laugh escapes her at the thought of needing a harness for Breanna. "I certainly hope not. Though if it is needed I have a good idea how to make them at least." This said with a grin. "Or I could just use my canine's to keep her well watched." That is thought. A glance is offered to Th'ero curiously. "I've gotten to see him a few times now. Not for a few sevendays though. We've both been rather busy." Things happen, plans have to be changed and so forth.

Th'ero laughs again and tips his pint glass towards Abigail. "Forgot that you would know a thing or two about harnesses," he drawls and then smirks. "And have the trust of those canines. Or is it just the one you keep?" Something crosses his mind then and he goes silent as he mulls it over in his head. "Your canine… is it a male or female?" Odd question to ask, but he regards her with a serious and yet curious look. As for So'l, he nods his head again. "Understandable. Distance can be difficult, especially when timezones play into the mix."

Abigail grins a moment at the thought and nods. "If ye need a new one let me know." This said with a teasing tone at the idea. As for the rest she tilts her head while curiously watching Th'ero. "I have three at the moment, two females and a male. The female I had had puppies and I've been training the younger ones. I actually have a few more that stay with my father at Fort Hold." She ponders while smirking a touch. "Are ye looking for a canine perhaps?" This questioned with an amused tone. "I have full trust in mine. As for the one we found while looking for Laris he is used in guard work. I was able to get him trained up rather well." She was called the crazy-canine handler after all. "It doesn't help matter, though hopfully I can take a few days off to go see him."

Th'ero quirks a brow. "Truly that many? What kind of canine? Large breed? One of the fleet footed wiry coat ones the hunters here are fond of?" he asks with sudden interest. No doubt that gives away that the Weyrleader could very well be inquiring after a puppy or a canine of his own, though his tastes seem to run towards what folks back on Earth would call a Scottish Deerhound or Irish Wolfhound type of breed. He snorts softly when Abigail calls him out on his true intentions and he nods, "I am, actually. For Kyzen. Apparently gifting him a pony is too extravagant, but I want my son to have… something to call his own that isn't a toy and requires some responsibility on his part. I understand he is only four Turns and most of the care will fall to myself, Kimmila and Kyzen's foster parents but… a good bred canine should be truth worthy enough with a young child?" Clearly, Th'ero knows very little! "So you trained your females' pups all yourself?"

Abigail looks amused none the less and she nods at this. "Nothing wrong with that, and yes they are a large breed. Rather fuzzy long legged able to carry pack and harnesses. I use them for search and rescue, hunting and so froth really." This said with a slight shrug and she ponders a moment. Her canines look like what some might call wolves back on earth. "I trust my canine's around Breanna, my female watches over her rather closely. Aye, I've always trained my female's pups. Me father taught me what he knew as he also trained his canines for the same work."

Th'ero nods his head and while she goes on to explain her canines further, he mulls over his thoughts and the details she shares with another long sip of his drink before setting the glass aside. "So they can both be companion and work animals?" he asks, swiftly followed by a crooked smile. "And are any of your pups for sale?" Ah ha! So the Weyrleader IS looking to purchase! "And if not… do you know of any other reputable canine owners who may have a litter or expect one soon?"

Abigail nods at this, a soft smile see at the thought. "Aye that they can. I train them so when they have a harness on they are in work mood so to speak. When the harness is off they are able to play and relax." She soon grins and looks amused. "The two pups are up for new owners if ye would wish one. I wouldn't charge anything for 'em, just knowing they are with a good owner means enough to me. Would ye be interested in the female or male pup? One is silvery with bright brown eyes, and the other is black with yellow eyes."

Th'ero considers all that Abigail tells him and scratches thoughtfully under his chin. "I don't quite feel right just taking one of your canine pups without something in return. Surely there is something Kimmila or I could trade that is equal to the value of the pup?" he offers, only to chuckle. "Which of the two do you think would suit Kyzen best? You know my son. High energy, a taste for mischief and mayhem. I'd say a canine with some common sense, if that is even possible, would be a good fit."

Abigail smiles softly and nods while tilting her head and looking to Th'ero a moment. "How about we do this. I let ye, Kimmila and Kyzen meet the pups and see if both of ye, and he like one of 'em? If so then we can talk about a price?" This questioned with a curious tone. "If for some reason ye lot don't like 'em it's alright. I do know a few others that breed and raise other canines as well that may be more what yer looking for."

"I think that is an agreeable term," Th'ero muses and reaches over to grab his pint glass and polish off the last of his ale. "When would be a good time for all of us to come by? Where do you keep your canines?" he asks, likely already plotting out how to wrangle Kimmila and their son together and when. The Weyrleader's time is precious too, it seems.

Abigail nods as she hears that while taking a sip from her mug. "I'm glad ta hear that. The three stay with me in me weyr with Niumdreoth. Breanna is staying with her foster family so the canines can stay with me." She ponders when they could come by. "Just send a message to me when yer free and we're see about setting up a time. Though not tomorrow as I plan on going over to Xanadu for the day."

Th'ero dips his head and flashes her a warm smile. "It won't be as soon as tomorrow. Perhaps later in the sevenday? I will have Velokraeth bespeak Niumdreoth when I have a better idea of when we can come by. Thank you for your help. It'd be nice to have a canine pup from one of yours, so I hope one of the pups meshes well with Kyzen." he murmurs and then turns to glance towards the door. His brows furrow for a moment, eyes distant and then he sighs heavily. "Seems my time here is over already. My apologies, Abigail. If you do see So'l tomorrow, let him know that we look forwards to the Hatching and to seeing him back here in Fort soon. And give Xanadu Weyr's Leaders are regards too." he murmurs, pushing to his feet and reaching to shrug his jacket back on.

Abigail smiles and nods. "That is what I figured but I wanted to offer it up non the less." This said with an soft tone at the idea of it. "Of course, just let Niumdreoth know and we're go from there." This said before a soft chuckle escapes her. "If it does not work this time and ye are interested thereis always the next litter, or even one from my father's canines." She knows how to get canine's that is for sure. The look is one she knows and she soon nods, a soft smile seen once more. "Aye sir I will let them know, do have a good day and stay warm sir." This said with a slight slaute seen.

Th'ero dips his head again and his smile broadens. "Perfect. We'll see how it goes with the two pups you have, but it's reassuring to know that I won't have to search too far if need be. Thank you again for your help, Abigail. Safe travels and clear skies," he says and returns that salute once he has finished fastening his jacket and then briskly walks out from the tavern and into the cold winter air.
