A Moment in the Lounge

Fort Weyr - Shenanigan's Lounge

The natural walls of this cavern haven been completely covered and replaced by straight and sometimes curving walls of brickwork. There's method to the madness of covering stone with stone. It's as simple as the electric buzz in the room. New grade electric lights dot the fancy brick worked walls, with wires cleverly hidden behind, allowing more focus to be centered on the rest of the room rather than the numerous strings of wire needed to operate the lighting. Each bulb roosts in a bronzed metal flowering fixture, giving the room a rich atmosphere. Still, the walls are not the only place which has stone on stone appeal. The floor has been run smooth, the surface now slate rock, creating an imperial cast.

Beyond the actual foundations of the lounge, the luxury continues. High backed wooden chairs with padded white seats have been stationed all around the room. Between the individual chairs are benches fashioned out of the same rich wood with pillows made to flatter the cushions. There are low lying coffee tables or end tables near the individual chairs, while there's larger dinning room sized tables with chairs to match scattered as well, giving much variety to those who find themselves in the room. Decorative hangings and framed artwork has been neatly hung around the room, but to offset the meticulous method of the room, there's some pieces that give a sporty feeling to the room - such as a fishing rod or a snow shoe.

Of course, the final appeal of the room comes in the form of it's purpose; athletic competition. There are several games of darts lining the walls, various decks of dragon poker cards available, a large velvet lined pool table centered to one side of the lounge, a mat area surrounded by ropes, and an area that keeps track of all the runner races around the world via radio signal, giving constant updates on the status of the runners. Lastly, there's a bar here, small and built with brick as well. There's usually a bartender on duty willing to mix drinks during the evening hours.

The Living Caverns empty the later the hour gets, but the Lounge seems to only grow. Shenanigans is a comfortably crowded place, happy people - riders and residents alike - enjoy a drink or a game of darts and discuss both the progressing Winter Games, and the new clutch on the Sands. And of course, if there's a crowd, there's a bartender, and tonight that bartender happens to be Risner. He's leaning casually against the bar, watching the crowd and just waiting, patiently.

Sabrina has gotten into the habit of comming to Shenanigans instead of the tavern lately, though only because she doesn't want to walk through the snow. Too many turns of that has her welcoming the warmer, though smaller sports bar. She finds herself a seat at the bar and picks at the little bowl of nuts there as she tries to get used to haivng a little flitter crawling around her neck again. The stealthy little green finds her way up the hairdresser's green hair and perches on top of her head, surveying the area with a calculating eye.

Karona has been sitting here a while, at one end of the bar, a pair of very young firelizards in her lap. She's been pretty quiet so far, keeping to herself. Just watching the games with interest, the pool especially. The smith leans back against the bar, realising perhaps she ought to order … something. "Erm." she tilts her head at Risner, then shakes her head, apparently unable to place the bartender's name, likely because they've not met. "Get me something … fruity?" Asking for a fruity drink in a sports bar? Could be worse. She blinks as she also notices Sabrina, /just/ as the green is climbing through the hairdresser's green hair, and she runs a hand through her own reddish-brown hair with a slight shudder. "Firelizards, eh?" she says, though her eyes soon drift back to the games.

"Hm? Sure thing," decides Risner, flashing Karona a quick grin. He's scooping shaved ice into a glass as Sabrina sits, and he flashes her a quick smile as well. The firelizard is certainly noticed and, if the raised eyebrow is any indication, so is her green hair. "Can I get you anything?" he wonders, bobbing his head at the hairdresser. Meanwhile, Karona's 'fruity' drink seems to have neared completion, a slice of citrus added on the rim for decoration, and he hands it over. "Hope you like it," he tells her. "I my own invention, if you could call it that." Names'll just have to come later, it seems.

Sabrina nods lightly, though tries not to move too much with the newborn on her head. "Thanks, yeah. I'll have just an ale, or something." She eyes that fruity drink though, slight longing in her eyes. Maybe she'll have one of those later? She'll have to think about it. But for now… She grins at Karona and looks up her own forehead, trying to maybe see the flit on her head. "Yeah, just hatched today. Named her Roxanne." She says with a smile. Odd names run in her family. The green turns her gaze on the people her girl are talking to, glaring slightly at them for making her best place of camoflauge move around so much.

Karona tips her head at Risner as she accepts the invented drink, a gesture of thanks. "Mmm, looks good." she says, raising it in a sort of toast to its maker, though she doesn't take a sip just yet, instead placing it back down on the bar. "You invent many drinks?" Hey, look at her, trying this conversation thing. What a shock. Karona nods at the green. "Roxanne. Interesting name. My two are, Kistane," she gestures to the furry-looking brown, and then to the steel blue, "and Shafe. Shafe hatched today, too."

"Ale it is." This drink is much faster, a mug going under the tap. It's quickly filled and handed over. "Today, hm? In that big group of eggs I saw? Lucky. There were so many bodies, I couldn't even get a look at what was going on, let alone get one of 'em." Ah well. He flashes a grin. "I do, actually," he answers Karona. "It's a hobby, I suppose. There's a list just over there." He points towards a small menu-like list. "If you like it, tell your friends; I could definitely use the publicity. I'm Risner." There. Named. "And congrats, then, to both of you."

Sabrina takes the ale and drinks it, exhaling happily. "Thank you." She says as she puts the mug down on the bar. "They're great." Sabrina says about the flitters. "My other two are Loley and Doyle. Though, they're much older and who knows where they are." She says with a small laugh. "Yeah, there were a lot of people out there today." She says to risner. "I hung out kind of away from the people and Roxanne came to me." Said flit gets fed up with her moving pedestool and glides down to the bar, immediately ducking low to the 'ground' and skittering quickly around the mug to peer at Risner with her crimson eyes. She's not angry per se, just threatening. Or trying to be at only a couple of inches long.

Karona tilts her head at the bartender, repeating, "Risner. I would, but I don't really have any friends at Fort yet." Her tone is calm, casual, just stating a fact. "Just recently posted here, you see." Friends will come later. Or not. She doesn't seem especially concerned. "Ah, name's Karona." she adds, finally raising her drink to take a teeeny tiny sip. "Mmm, nice." she murmurs, setting it back down again. She's not a big drinker, huh? To Sabrina, the smith nods. "That's good to hear… But, what do they /do/?" Oh, she knows the basics, she's seen people use them to carry messages, but they still don't seem especially useful, to her.

"Hey there," says Risner, wiggling his fingers towards little Roxanne. "I'm not scary," he attempts to assure her. Too bad all he's got to offer are some nuts. "Man, I must just have awful timing; everyone I know has a flock of these things, and I can't even get one." But it's said in good cheer, with a grin and a little shrug. "Guess I don't smell good or something." Maybe it's all the beer. "Well, friends will come easy, I'm sure," he assures her, smiling. "Nice to meet you, Karona. And welcome to Fort! I hope you like snow- oh dear." That last part was certainly not meant for either of them. Risner's attention is taken, and he sighs as he slips around the bar. "If you'll excuse me," he says, bobbing his head at Sabrina and Karona, "But I see a spill I've got to get." Beer. Everywhere. And he's the luck one who gets to clean it.

Sabrina grins as Roxanne considers Risner with the care of someone deciding whether to trust or attack. She decides on neither however and slithers along the bar around drinks and bowls and napkins towards Karona. "Ah, they don't really /do/ anything, besides look cute and deliver the occasional message for me. They're kind of like domesticated felines. They're just, cute." She says, keeping an eye on her new flit. She smiles though when Risner says he's got to clean up a spill. Drinking the rest of her ale quickly, she gets up from her stool and moves to grab the green stealth fighter and slip her up onto her shoulder. "My name's Sabrina, by the way." She says with a smile. "It was nice talking with you, and I hope I get to see you round the weyr more. But I've got to get going. I just remembered that I have an early appointment tomorrow." She gives her a small wave before heading out of the bar. "See ya 'round."

Karona gives Risner a brief nod as he heads off to clean up a spill, wrinkling her nose up at the mess. She doesn't envy the bartender his job in the slightest. She eyes the approaching green. "Just cute, huh? Well, I can think of worse things." As Sabrina picks up the green, Karona smiles, just briefly, perhaps looking a little relieved. "Right. See you round, Sabrina." she says, with a nod. She picks the firelizards off of her lap and pushes off of the barstool now, heading for the pool table, leaving her barely touched drink behind.
