Fort Weyr - Living Caverns
This cavern, having been created by bubbles in the volcanic flow of this extinct volcano, has a breathtaking ceiling — a vast dome that arches high above the heads of the weyrfolk that scurry around beneath it. A hollow echo can be heard from loud enough noises, and the chatterings of various firelizards are consequently multiplied into a chaotic babble. All in all, the living cavern is a loud place.

Tables are scattered around the room, apparently in no particular order. Over to one side near the kitchens, two medium sized serving tables are constantly spread with snacks, klah, and other goodies. The tables look worn, yet perfectly fitted to the atmosphere of the caverns. In the 'corners' of the cavern, smaller two and four place tables are set up for more private talks or just a less chaotic atmosphere in which to eat.

Abigail is off sitting on her own at the moment, which giving that it is late evening she doesn't have to go about fighting for a table or the like. It is winter outside still, the snow is falling once more and it is freezing to say the least, thanks to this Abbey is sitting near the fire to work on keeping herself warm. A mug of klah rest in her hand while she is looking over a bunch of papers that rest for the moment in her lap. Her flightjacket is open, which does show off that baby bump, so any that might question if the rider was expecting can put that to rest now it seems.

Late evening doesn't mean there's any less work to be done - though that which Thys brings into the living caverns doesn't look like anything specifically Weyr-related, since it's a sketchbook. She scans the room, with her brown eyes finally settling on Abbey and her empty table. The goldrider weaves her way towards the brownrider, settling her sketchbook down in the place opposite her. "I'll be right back," she says, before meandering off to get klah and food. She sips the former as she returns slips into a seat, exhaling a deep sigh. "Hey, Abbey. How's it going?" Her gaze slips pointedly towards the rider's bump, a gentle smile curving up the corners of her mouth.

Abigail looks up and peers after Thys before she is looking back to the papers that she is dealing with. "Sure." She offers softly before it seems the other is back and rather quick like. "Doing alright, how ye be Thys?" This questions while she looks to the other, a soft smile seen. The glance is taken though and a hand rests lightly upon her belly. "Working on staying warm more then anything." She's finding the cold is bothering her more at the moment, she blames the baby.

"I'm well, thank you! Working on wrapping up a few things here and there, so that I can take a vacation. I think Nyalle said I can, so I'm hoping I heard right." Thys grins, setting down her klah to pick up one of the mini-muffins from her plate. "Have you ever tried angora to keep you warm? It's deliciously warm, if you're struggling with that. An angora sweater will practically have you sweating, if you can stand the feel of wool?"

"Angora?" Abigail pauses and ponders a bit. "I don't think I have honestly. I'll have to give it a go at this rate. Either that or I'll be back to sleeping with Niumdreoth." This said with an amused tone at the thought. "Vacation's are nice, ye deserve it after all the crazy that happened with the sands."

After swallowing down another mini-muffin, Thys nods. "Mmmhrm, you get good angora in Crom. It's rabbit wool, you know? Very soft, very fine; my riding gloves are lined with it. Well, with angora felt, anyway, since I'm not a huge fan of the feel of wool… too itchy." She grins, reaching for her sketchbook to flip it open to a half-empty page. The non-empty portion is filled with sketches of jewellery, to which Thys idly adds more as she continues talking. "Honestly, I've never been on a vacation before. I don't know where I'd go, what I'd do… I don't even know if Ralik can get the time off to come with me."

Abigail nods a moment and smiles. "That is what I thought. Found some in the past but I've never had the reason for trying to find soemthing to keep me warm like now." Totally the kidlet's fault. Her gaze drifts over the sketchbook and she leans forward a touch. "What ye drawing? I use to draw when younger, have ta admit I don't do much of it anymore."

"Oh, just some doodles for possible designs. It's been a while since I've been able to work on any new jewellery, but I'm feeling the itch for it." Thys turns her sketchbook around so that Abbey can see everything the right way up. "I'm not sure if any of these are any good, per se, but there's potential in a couple. I'll keep sketching until I come up with one I really like, and then I'll develop it. Like this one…" She flips through the pages, to one that shows the progression of sketches; from rough through to a watercoloured final piece. Abigail may recognise it from one of Thys's jewellery displays. "I'm hoping to get at least a couple of small sets finished soon."

Abigail ahs softly and nods as she catches sight of the sketches and what they are. "There lovely Thys." She offers softly as she leans back in her seat once more. "I did more objects I suppose. Helps with mapping out things for sweeps I've found." She did several good sketches in the past, of people and dragons too not that she comments on such things. "Though I never thought of taking a sketch and turning into something like jewellery before."

Thys sets her pencil down onto a blank page in her sketchpad, and pushes it towards Abbey. "Go ahead. Try it! Come up with something, and I'll show you how it can be turned into jewellery." She curls both hands around her klah mug, raising it to her lips for a luxuriously relaxed sip, during which she peeps over at Abbey. "If you want, I could maybe even turn it into real jewellery."

Abigail peeks at Thys and then looks back to the sketch book, she seems a but amused by this before nodding. "Well.. I could give it a try." The pencil is picked up while she eyes the bare page. "So how have other things been for ye?" Might as well talk a bit while she waits for the muse to hit her.

"Just draw whatever comes to mind," Thys encourages, as she picks through her plate of food. "Things have otherwise been… well, pretty much the same, to be honest. Thank Faranth I'm off the Sands; I didn't enjoy that so much, though Rhenesath insisted I stay close as much as possible. Ralik's working from the Hall, so he's not around as often, and that leaves me to just… work. It's reassuring and a little dull - but dull is good. I'm happy with dull after the Sands fiasco."

Abigail smiles a bit and goes about drawing a circle at first, within said circle comes lines, a bit of shading here and there while she works on the idea. "Well perhaps he can take some time off when yer able ta escape? Always nice to go elsewhere with one ye care about aftera ll. Help the relationship believe it or not." Well, it has for her in the past. "Nothing wrong with dull either. To much has happened about this place as of late."

Thys gives a little shrug of her shoulders. "Well, I could try and drag him away, but he's working on something important for the Weyr right now… and if I take him away from that, he's going to be late on delivering. Since it's my project…" There's a bit of a conflict of interests there! She grins, reaching out for a little slice of cake she helped herself to. Yep, Thys's plate is full of sweet stuff. "If you were to go on holiday, where would you go? I've got no idea at all where would be good."

Abigail looks over the drawing she is working on, which looks like it could be a round charm with something in the center. "Ah.. Well yes I can see why that would be a bit more of an issue towards things." She glances to her and smiles a bit. "Me?.. I'd go camping off in the wilds. I do it ever now and then when I get a few restdays back to back. Niumdreoth an I just go and enjoy the forest."

"Really? And is it relaxing? I've not been camping since I was a kid." Thys is intrigued by the idea, if not entirely sold into it. She taps her finger against her lip as she mulls it over. "And what does Niumdreoth do while you're there? Is he comfortable without having a weyr to sleep in? There's so much of Rhen that I've go no idea where I could go that she would actually fit."

Abigail smiles and nods while she leans back a bit. "Aye.. I find it relaxing. But ye have to remember I grew up as a guard, running through the forest all the time and camping out rather often." It is part of her honestly. "Niumderoth goes exploring, hunting, and I have my canines which we do some of the same." She chuckles now. "I actually enjoy sleeping out under the stars, in a tent near a fire. Though someone to snuggle with honestly helps the cooler nights." A slight nod is seen and she ponders. "Ye could go to someplace with a beach.. Like the sand?"

"I don't know, to be honest; I've not really spent much time on beaches." Thys drums her fingers on the table, a quick rhythm as she thinks. Maybe to help her thoughts along. "I suppose though that the real benefit of having a dragon is that we can go absolutely anywhere, right? So I could try a little of whatever I wanted in however long Nyalle will allow, though… I would be kind of lonely doing it alone. Hrm." She leans over, looking at what Abbey's drawn. "I quite like than concept. Would you set it with a stone, or just solid metal? Or something else, even?"

Abigail turns the sketchpad around so she can see that there looks to be a wolf howling in the center of the charm. "Have to figure out a way to do the design maybe.. Not to sure though." She smiles a bit and hums osftly before nodding. "Well.. Do something that you like? What did ye like to do before being a rider?"

Thys's nose wrinkles as she thinks. "This, I suppose. I liked being an apprentice, working as a Smith… though I suppose I also liked dancing? Perhaps there's a gather or something coming up somewhere that I could attend…" Her finger-drumming stops as she turns her attention down to Abbey's sketch. "I have a few ideas for how to make this workable. If you'd like, I can take it home and come up with something? Going with plain metal would be good, maybe with a stone backing… hrm. Would you like me to make this for you?"

Abigail nods at that while she leans back and is sipping at her drink while pondering. "Well.. Perhaps working on something, or holding a dance..?" Just a few ideas. As for the rest she is quiet while looking at the sketch. "No.. It's alright. I hardly wear such things really. Though I admit I have the need to go back to sketching myself now."

Thys shakes her head at the thought of holding a dance. "Dear Faranth, I don't think I should - they always end up in chaos." Stolen buttons, stolen jewellery, dead bodies… "I'll have an ask around to see if anyone knows of anything that's going on. There's bound to be something I can go and do." She grins, tucking her pencil behind her ear and gently flipping her sketchbook closed. "Even if you don't want that piece, you've inspired me to go and do something similar… which means the forge is calling." She winks across at Abbey, then picks up her klah to drain it. "I'll bring it by you when it's done for your approval. It was lovely catching up, Abbey; stay well, won't you?" She stands up, pausing to hear the brownrider's reply.

Abigail chuckles softly. "Then see if Nyalle wishes to have a dance?" That way Thys doesn't have to worry about things like buttons, and dead bodies! There is a pause as she hears Thys talk about the sketch and she looks a bit amused. "Sure.. I'll look at it for certain then. I'll do my best, but ye do as well." A slight wave is sent after the goldrider.

With her sketchbook under her arm, Thys gives Abbey a nod. "I'll try," she replies with a wink, before turning to head out into the bowl, picking up her winter clothing along the way.
