Fort Weyr - Shenanigan's Lounge
The natural walls of this cavern haven been completely covered and replaced by straight and sometimes curving walls of brickwork. There's method to the madness of covering stone with stone. It's as simple as the electric buzz in the room. New grade electric lights dot the fancy brick worked walls, with wires cleverly hidden behind, allowing more focus to be centered on the rest of the room rather than the numerous strings of wire needed to operate the lighting. Each bulb roosts in a bronzed metal flowering fixture, giving the room a rich atmosphere. Still, the walls are not the only place which has stone on stone appeal. The floor has been run smooth, the surface now slate rock, creating an imperial cast.//
Beyond the actual foundations of the lounge, the luxury continues. High backed wooden chairs with padded white seats have been stationed all around the room. Between the individual chairs are benches fashioned out of the same rich wood with pillows made to flatter the cushions. There are low lying coffee tables or end tables near the individual chairs, while there's larger dinning room sized tables with chairs to match scattered as well, giving much variety to those who find themselves in the room. Decorative hangings and framed artwork has been neatly hung around the room, but to offset the meticulous method of the room, there's some pieces that give a sporty feeling to the room - such as a fishing rod or a snow shoe.
Of course, the final appeal of the room comes in the form of it's purpose; athletic competition. There are several games of darts lining the walls, various decks of dragon poker cards available, a large velvet lined pool table centered to one side of the lounge, a mat area surrounded by ropes, and an area that keeps track of all the runner races around the world via radio signal, giving constant updates on the status of the runners. Lastly, there's a bar here, small and built with brick as well. There's usually a bartender on duty willing to mix drinks during the evening hours.
This particular evening, post-dinner, post-Xanadu Hatching, sees a full Shenanigan's. There are folks celebrating the success of bets placed, there are some commisserating, and there are some… setting up a game at a table surrounded by chairs. A card game. But not dragonpoker or your other dull suits-game - this is: "Anyone else want to join us for Irreverence?" Thys stands on her chair - a little sauced already, if the flush on her cheeks and the way she's raising her voice is anything to tell by - inviting players to join. Then she hops down, runs a hand half-heartedly across where she's just had her feet on her seat, then plonks down and pulls out the deck.
Rynn has always been a fan of placing hatching bets, and this evening in particular, she is celebrating a hefty win. Heading for Shenanigan's, her huntress friend Alya is by her side as they head to the bar with smiles on their faces. "This one's on me." says Rynn getting their first round. THe girls chat before Alya heads off to say hi to some brute in the corner. Rynn looks around, noticing a few familiar faces through the crowd, and hears Thys' call out for the card game. A brow is raised- the goldie sounds a little toasty!? This is something Rynn has never seen before and she finds all too temptingly amusing to pass up heading over, so she makes her way towards the card table and takes a seat. "I'm in." She says, her eyes glisten and lips curl at the corners in to a warm smile "Hey Thys. How's your night darlin? S'been turns since I played!"
K'drozen slips into the Shenanigans and moves over to the bar ordering himself a drink. The brown rider looking a bit distant as he gazes about the bar. Seeing the group gathered about the card table he steps over closely and smirks just a bit, not sitting down as of yet.
Rynn just can't catch a break these days. No sooner had she sat down before a stocky man with a five-o'clock tapped her on the shoulder to whisper something in her ear. Smile disappears and drink is set down. "Apologies, if you will excuse me, there is an unavoidable matter I must tend to." She tips her head, stands up and heads for the door.
When Rynn is called away, leaving only Thys at the table and K'drozen nearby, the goldrider huffs at her brownrider buddy. "Well, I was expecting a better turnout," she says with a soft snort, crossing her arms over her chest and looking around the bustling lounge. "Perhaps we've over-Irreverenced ourselves? Maybe everyone's tired of playing."
K'drozen says, "That is possible, or everyone is over excited after the hatching." as he slips into a seat, "A bit to much of the drink you know.."
"Well, honestly? I would have thought the drink would make people more inclined to play, but… ah, well." Thys had already separated out the deck into black and white cards, but now she picks them up to slip them back into the box. "There's always another night. I'd hate to think I detracted from excitement over the Hatching by initiating a tawdry game."
K'drozen chuckles and says, "That is true, I don't know what is up then." he smirks, "Thinks have been quiets when I ahve been about alot lately.." he smirks just a bit and looks about, "Maybe it is me.."
Thys fiddles with the box of cards with one hand, reaching for her drink with the other. "I'm quite content with them being quiet - it means less work at the end of the day." And that's always a good thing! "Though there's a niggling part of me that can't help but feel that quiet might be too quiet, if you know what I mean?" She lowers her voice, leaning towards the brownrider. "Like someone's plotting something…"
K'drozen chuckles and says softly, "it is very possible they are." he smiles, "We should be alert against it." as he finishes speaking he takes a long drink of his beverage.
The reaction from K'drozen leaves Thys blinking. "I… um… I was actually being quite serious." She pauses to sip from her drink, then frowns. "Rhenesath will clutch soon. The last thing I want is for there to be trouble going on around the Weyr when my dragon's first ever eggs are on the Sands."
K'drozen smiles and says, 'Believe me I know Thys." he smiles, "Actually it is sorta my job to try to prevent anything from happening." he says, "And I was being serious, we should allways be alert against it, but…" he looks up into her eyes, "Even members of thunderbird need to wind down now and then or we will start to miss things."
"Well, yes, of course, we all need our downtime, but I was confused by your laughing." Thys's frown deepens for a moment, then eases as she reaches for her drink. "Perhaps I've had a little too much already. I seem to be doing that too often lately." And yet she still sips from her glass, before setting it down again. "Being vigilant is advisable, of course. Preferable, too. I often wish I could be out there with your wing, doing what you do."
K'drozen nods and says, "We each do the work we are suited best for." he smiels, "I am sure now and then it could be arranged for you to ride with us, after all it is important for the administration of the weyr to know what we are doing right?"
Thys clears her throat. "I play the role I Impressed into, not the one I chose. Given that Rhenesath's already showing with her clutch, and that she'll be laying it any time soon, I don't think now is the best time for me to be flying with Thunderbird, unfortunately… and Abbey is the one who shares your wing's happenings with the Weyrleader. No need for me to do it."
K'drozen chuckles ans nods, "I ment after all the stuff with eggs is done but yeah." he shrugs, "Was just an idea."
"Right, right, just an idea… right, I'm sorry." Thys waves her hand apologetically at K'drozen. "It's the drink. It makes me snappy. I do apologise." She sighs, pushing what remains in her glass away from her. "I've definitely had too much now. Actually… I probably ought to head back to my weyr, turn in for the night."
K'drozen nods and says, "Its alright really Thys." he smiles and says, "We are all tired. you go and rest well ok. If you need me or anyone from thunderbird don't hesitate to call."
"I'll be sure to, thank you for the offer." Thys gets to her feet, firing a casual salute off at K'drozen. "Thanks for your company, Kal. See you tomorrow." Somewhere around the Weyr, no doubt. She picks up her empty before she leaves, dropping it off at the bar before heading out and to bed.
