When Winter
Where Shenanigan's Lounge, Fort Weyr

Shenanigan's Lounge
The natural walls of this cavern haven been completely covered and replaced by straight and sometimes curving walls of brickwork. There's method to the madness of covering stone with stone. It's as simple as the electric buzz in the room. New grade electric lights dot the fancy brick worked walls, with wires cleverly hidden behind, allowing more focus to be centered on the rest of the room rather than the numerous strings of wire needed to operate the lighting. Each bulb roosts in a bronzed metal flowering fixture, giving the room a rich atmosphere. Still, the walls are not the only place which has stone on stone appeal. The floor has been run smooth, the surface now slate rock, creating an imperial cast.
Beyond the actual foundations of the lounge, the luxury continues. High backed wooden chairs with padded white seats have been stationed all around the room. Between the individual chairs are benches fashioned out of the same rich wood with pillows made to flatter the cushions. There are low lying coffee tables or end tables near the individual chairs, while there's larger dining room sized tables with chairs to match scattered as well, giving much variety to those who find themselves in the room. Decorative hangings and framed artwork has been neatly hung around the room, but to offset the meticulous method of the room, there's some pieces that give a sporty feeling to the room - such as a fishing rod or a snow shoe.
Of course, the final appeal of the room comes in the form of it's purpose; athletic competition. There are several games of darts lining the walls, various decks of dragon poker cards available, a large velvet lined pool table centered to one side of the lounge, a mat area surrounded by ropes, and an area that keeps track of all the runner races around the world via radio signal, giving constant updates on the status of the runners. Lastly, there's a bar here, small and built with brick as well. There's usually a bartender on duty willing to mix drinks during the evening hours.

It is the late evening here at Fort, and as the bar here is starting to thin out there is still a few people enjoying drinks and company trying to hide from the snow and cold that awaits most out side. One of those people is the tall hunter Riohra, he stands in the corner area throwing darts with a pitcher of beer next to him and a half drank glass.

Krenn doesn't know why he came up this far north. Business, almost certainly. The cold weather doesn't agree with him. He has to wear a fur-lined heavy jacket just to cope. Now, time for drinking! He's on his way to order when he spies a familiar face near the bar. "Rio!"

Riohra turns his head in mid throw and grins as he lets go off the dart it hiting the last number he needed to finish his game. "Krenn!" he turns and waves the other man over to join him calling "Grab a glass"

Krenn does just as suggested, grabbing a tall mug of ale before wandering over. "How've you been?" He asks, grinning. "Can't believe you came back here after life in Half Moon. So, when's the wedding?"

Riohra laughs and will clap his friend on the shoulder probably dislodging some snow that he might not have gotten to, "Well, we are going to see what happens with this dragon business first. But that doesn't matter much to us, she is mine and I am hers that is all we need." Yup still a simple man of the world, "what brings you to my little slice of paradise?"

"Oh? Giving candidacy another shot then, are you?" Krenn says with a little grin. "Well, best of luck to the two of you. I knew you guys would end up happy together." He takes a long swig of his drink. "Mmm. Craft business. Nothing too exciting. More call for leathers up here, and all that."

Riohra shrugs alittle saying " I don't see why not, aren't you? I mean do we really have a choice?" it is a valid question probably one the tall man has pondered for a while now. When Krenn says why he is here Rio grins and reaches out to hand him a writ for the tanners services "You dont say.."

Krenn raises an eyebrow. "You can always decline the invitation to stand. I mean, not many do, but… it's a thing people can do." He says with another shrug. He takes another swig. "S'too bad you and Kass returned here, though. I think Baylee and the others miss you guys."

Riohra shrugs "what harm does it do to stand for a while? See a new place make some friends. You can always come home after" When Krenn mentions the others he says "oh I have gotten a letter or two but it is best if they work out their own problems" he motions Krenn to sit down at a table "How are you doing my friend?"

Krenn takes the offered seat. "What harm? Well, there's the chores, the rules, the restrictions. Couldn't be doing this if we were candidates, after all. I'm sure you and Kass appreciate the break, don't you? And I'm… doing well enough. Focusing on my work. How about you?"

Riohra grins and nods "true enough, as far as a break? Well she is busy playing catch up for the dragonhealer stuff and I am dealing with a back log of stuff for the Weyr so we are more busy then we were. But it is ok, I at least know she comes to sleep at night" he drinks his beer not wanting to rub anything in his friends face "I am sorry man, I can't even imagine what you are going through right now"

Krenn shakes his head quickly, smiling a bit. "It's alright. I mean, we all knew this was a possibility, right? These things happen." He downs the remainder of his drink. "If… well, no reason to dwell on the past, y'know? Just more reason to keep busy."

Riohra nods and grins pouring Krenn another glass "To right my friend to right, saw Tanit the other day at the dolphin hall. Guess she up and joined them now, was quite a shock"

"Really?" Krenn says with a smile. "Well, good for her. Dolphincraft's a good craft. Have a lot of them around Half Moon, and all that." He grins. "I'd make a comment about the wetsuits they're always wearing, but Kass and…" He shakes his head. "… Kass probably wouldn't appreciate it, I mean."

Riohra laughs and nods "which is why me and Kassala went and got her one that is well, abit more modest than the others" his smile will dip alittle when he notices Krenn won’t say the name and says "She isn't gone forever you know.."

Krenn grins and arches an eyebrow. "And was that your idea, Tanit's idea, or Kassala's idea?" He asks in a tone that suggests he definitely has a guess about that. The comment that follows earns a shrug. "Well, yeah, I know that. But… she's a rider now, and I'm not. I just hope she doesn't forget about me."

Riohra grins saying "I sad she needed a new one, Kass said it should be nice. Tanit didnt get a choice" He puts his mug down and says to his friend "Do you think she will? I mean really not in your head full of sadness and bad logic but in your heart where your craft comes from?"

Krenn arches an eyebrow and grins. "Did you ever think Tanit might have liked the traditional ones? Nothing wrong with looking good, is there?" Krenn then shrugs his shoulders. "I don't think so, but… well, impressing can change a person. And she has a lifemate now. Hard to be sure about anything. I mean, I know how I feel, but… I'm probably worrying for nothing."

Riohra nods and reaches over to shoulder bump the tanner with his fist "She loves you, it is the dragon you got to win over now my friend." He leans back and takes a drink of his beer adding "just turn on that charm that made Baylee fall for ya and you will be fine" probably not because what does Rio know about dragons..

Krenn smiles and shrugs. "You're probably right. Nothing to worry about. But… we've got a long time before we need to worry about that, anyways. A turn, at least. Until then, I'm on my own."

Riohra laughs and says with a grin "Which is why in two sevenday you will be going fishing with me away from work and dragons and everything else just a couple of guys on the water relaxing."

Krenn smirks, amused. "You can fish up here? I thought the lakes all froze solid in this weather." He jokes. "But… well, I could use a break. Sure, why not? We're due to catch up."

Riohra grins and says "naw I got a family fishing spot down near the Southern Weyr, far far away form anything you want to be running from" he nods when Krenn excepts the offer of a vacation "if you see Tea there invite him too, we can make it a guys weekend."

"Xanadu, eh? Haven't been around there since my apprentice days." Krenn says with a little smile. "Well, sure. Sounds good enough. And I will. Haven't seen much of him since the hatching, but I'll keep an eye out."

Riohra nods and looks into his own beer for a moment saying "I saw them you know, the night of the hatching I carried there stuff into the barracks while they were tending to there new lifemates. Talked with Catwin and S'van, Baylee to but she was out of it more than the others. Don't know guess there are some things you can't be taught." he will shake off that a drift feeling and grin again "but better S'van than me can't imagine what he is going to do now he has to deal with all those new personalities"

"S'van seems to be adjusting well enough. The dragons never get it wrong, you know." Krenn says with a smile as he gets to his feet. "… I suppose I should call it a night. Don't want to get too drunk when I'm here on business. But it's been good seeing you, and I'm definitely in for the fishing trip."

Riohra stands and nods clapping the man on the shoulder saying "come on I will walk you to the guest quarters. You gave me the tour of your home it is only fair that I show you mine" he will move to guide Krenn out of the bar.
