Weryling Barracks
The rounded ceiling of this set of barracks is high enough to accomodate growing dragons. Lining the walls lengthwise are sets of stone couches and cots for their riders. At one end of the room are cabinets holding supplies for bathing and oiling young dragons, as well as the weyrling manuals. Against the opposite wall is a table with scraps of leather and leather-working tools. Tacked up on the wall is a diagram of riding straps.

My dearest Kera,

I’m writing to you while Jaicoureth is sleeping. This is one of the first times I’ve been able to stay awake while he has been asleep. It’s giving me the chance to write to you and say all the things that I want to say without worrying about what he will overhear. I can’t believe that my life has changed so much. Somehow the world just seems like it’s a different place. Jaicoureth is wonderful. He’s kind and loving and he has given me so much. He is so young and there are memories that I cannot share. I love him so much and I wouldn’t want to cause him any sort of worry or concern.

I want to begin by letting you know that my feelings for you haven’t changed. I love you, and me impressing doesn’t change that. I still feel very much like myself, but the world around me does seem different. No one is more surprised than me that I actually impressed. Thank you for coming to the hatching and for the notes that you sent. It meant a lot to me. I hope that everything is going well back at Xanadu and that Moncerath is doing well.
I hope that you will be able to come soon. Don’t be alarmed or worried if I can’t say or show much if you come. Jaicoureth is very possessive right now and he worries a lot. Look past what is going on, on the outside and see inside. You know my heart. Soon he’ll be older and it won’t matter as much.

The man who loves you,

C’rus.

PS. Please don’t forget about me.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I know it’s been a long time since I last wrote to you and I wanted to let you know that a lot of things have been going on in my life since we last spoke. Firstly, I’m no longer posted at Xanadu. I’m now living at Fort Weyr. I know it’s a long way away from home, but as soon as I’m able to I will try to come home for a visit.

I guess the first bit of news that I want to share with you is that I’ve met someone, and she is so amazing and I know you’d like her. She’s a healer like me, and we worked together at Xanadu while I was still posted there. Now she’s a rider. I know what you all said about them when we were growing up. But she isn’t like that. I love her, and I want to bring her with me when I come home to visit.

There is also another bit of news that I want to share with you. Are you guys sitting down? Because you probably should. The reason that I’m living over at Fort Weyr isn’t because I was reassigned. It was because I was searched. I didn’t say anything about it at the time because I was sure that I wouldn’t impress, but I did…

I impressed a blue dragon and his name is Jaicoureth and honestly he’s wonderful. He’s kind, smart, and so loving. He isn’t anything like you said that dragons were when we were young. And he didn’t change me. I’m still me. I still think the same way and believe what I believed before. If anything has changed its just that I know that I’m loved, and that is a big deal. So I hope that you guys don’t absolutely flip out. I won’t become a bad person. Jaicoureth chose me for a reason. I know it. So when I come home he will be coming with me. I hope that you will treat him like you would treat me because he is a part of me now, and that can’t change.

Things are really busy here and I will have to go before he wakes up. There are so many things he isn’t ready to know about yet, and I have to let him be a child. He’s still so small and there is so much he can’t understand.

Sincerely,

C’rus

(PS. You can still call me by my old name if you want. I’m not used to the new one yet anyway.)

My dear Masters,

I’m writing to inform you that I have Impressed at Fort. I know you are aware that I was searched. My name is now C’rus and my lifemates name is Jaicoureth. Please update the paperwork as needed. I fully intend to continue my craft and as soon as I’m able to will visit the hall.

I’m certain that everyone at the hall will be as surprised as I am. I did not expect any of this to happen nor did I plan it. But I would not change it. Jaicoureth is wonderful.

PS. If the other Journeyman want to take the room that I had my eye on they may. I won’t be coming back to live there.

PPS. If I might put in a word. Kera’s Journeyman project is a wonderful idea and I hope that you will give the project its due hearing.

Sincerely,

C’rus, Jaicoureth’s Healer.
