When Spring
Where Lake Shore, Fort Weyr

Fort Weyr - Lake Shore
This lake shares many features common to mountain lakes — a brilliant blue jewel nestled amongst the rocks. The waters are crystal clear, and the north shore slopes gently before abruptly falling away into the depths. This lake does have one significant differentiating feature, however. The south shore of the lake is a tumbled mass of rubble, rock and earth of an ancient rockslide smoothed only by the elements in the intervening years. This rubble, as well as the rather sheer east and west faces, makes for the north shore to be the only one easily accessible. //
Springs arrival is noted by the disappearing lake ice. As it melts it breaks up into smaller icy bergs. These bob randomly throughout the choppy waters, slowly disappearing as the temperatures rise. They also frequently provide sport and entertainment for the bathing dragons. The emerging shoreline is inviting, though the water remains chilly for their human counterparts. As spring draws nearer to summer, the waters begin to feel quite invigorating with Rukbat's growing shine.//

The afternoon air is crisp and the sky clear this spring day, there is no wind coming of the lake at this moment. The heat from Rukbat does warm the air but, a winter chill still hangs on keeping people from fully enjoying the lake. Dragons play in the lake with the icy floats as there riders either look on or are partaking of the noon time meal. A tall man in leather hunting gear dyed green to match the trees and underbrush of the forests is sitting on a rock studying a map drinking from a mug of something hot and steaming. His back is to the entrance from the Bowl, he seems completely engrossed in his work.

A blue winks in over the bowl from between, circling before seeking a place to land out within the bowl. Before too long, a red headed woman appears, a pack slung over one shoulder as she strides towards the lake, allowing her gaze to peer around. Curious is she, the first time at this particular Weyr. Spying Rio, there comes a quick smile to her lips and her steps head in his direction, "Riohra?" A hand is lifted, waved in his direction, though she's quite ready to apologize if it isn't him!

And the mud. Oh, the mud, ever a Fortian spring delight, squelches over just about everything. Kimmila squelches through it, up to the ankles of her bots, while her small blue glides overhead and lands with a splash in the lake. "At least you can fly back!" she hollers to the pale hued dragon, who waffles happily in reply.

Riohra looks up at the Blue rider who seems to be stomping about in the mud but before he can offer his assistance, his name is being shouted out. Putting a hand up to shade his eyes looking over to see the red headed woman and gives a slight wave of acknowledgement and then sets down his things on the rock and hops down. He stands there looking at the red haired lass a good long moment as merry grin breaks out on his face; crossing his arms over his chest he calls back "Is that little, Kassala? No it can't be she was no taller than water reed last I saw her."

Unconsciously ducking as a different blue flies over her head, Kassala turns her attention upwards, smiling as she watches it soon dive into the water. Hearing the muttering of the rider that follows, she chuckles, flashing Kim a smile before attention turns back to Rio, "Oh, listen to you.. I am not so little! And you aren't that big!" Luckily she's got old boots on, and the mud isn't minded as she crosses towards the hunter, "Heard from your family you were here, and they needed someone to bring a delivery of things here, so volunteered."

Kimmila tilts her head a bit, eavesdropping on the conversation without hesitation as she watches Varmiroth paddle about happily, dunking his head beneath the water to peer into the depths. For now, she'll continue to listen, though she does offer a smile to Kassala when noticed.

Riohra waits for her to close the distance and then visibly measures the top of her head as it comes to the bridge of his nose he teases "Still taller that you." He then reaches down and picks her up in a tight hug, laughing merrily says "It is great to see you, it has been what four or five turns?" When she mentions his family, one eyebrow arches as he sets her down "And what were you doing around them? I thought you were at that Healer school for dragons? Or did you graduate early?"

Rolling her eyes at him, Kassala sticks her tongue out then before being picked up and hugged. Once she finds her feet again, she chuckles, "I ran into them when visiting my family. They were at Southern Hold recently." A tilt of her red head is given, "I'm still going to school, just delivering some things to the dragon healer here." A pause, and she looks back, smiling a little more towards Kimmila and her dragon, "I've never been to Fort before, so I jumped at the chance to come."

Kimmila moves to sit on a boulder near the pair, scraping her boots against the weathered stone. "Be sure to check out the hatching cavern," she comments, unapologetic for eavesdropping. "And the lower caverns, if you like getting lost in ancient tunnels."

Riohra brings his attention back to the blue rider as she drops into the conversation like a low flying firelizard gets a nod as he says "You have the lost part of it right, I am used to wild caves but I still got lost traveling around". He smiles warmly to the blue rider, "And who do we have the pleasure of meeting this fine day?"

"I'd rather not get lost in ancient caves if I can help it." Kassala answers the bluerider with a grin and chuckle, "Though I have the suspicion that I will before the day is over, just trying to find the dragonhealer." As Rio asks the rider for a name, she falls silent, slipping the pack from her shoulder to set on a rock so it won't get muddy, giving her poor shoulder a break.

Kimmila grins back at Kassala, and winks. "But that's half the fun, and you never know what you'll find. I'm Kimmila." She nods towards the powdered blue, "and that's Varmiroth. You?"

Riohra actually finds himself nodding in agreement with Kimmila "Aye, life is nothing without a little excitement and surprise now and then." With a smile and a little pride in his voice answers the blue rider "I am Riohra, just signed on as a hunter here." He motions to Kassala and says "This is Kassala, who will someday be the utmost authority on dragon healing."

"It's okay.. sometimes." Kassala answers, chuckling softly. She begins to introduce herself, but finds instead that Rio has done so for her. Offering her hand to Kim, she adds, "Second rank dragonhealer, from the school. A pleasure to meet you." Turning, she offers to the blue nearby, "And you as well, Varmiroth." A respectful dip of her head is given to the dragon.

Kimmila lifts a brow and regards Riohra with more interest. "Oh yeah? That position's been open a while now. Glad they finally hired someone. You familiar with the area?" She turns, frowning a bit when Kassala addresses Varmiroth directly, but the blue doesn't seem to mind as he warbles happily back. "Well met, both of you. Are you going to be posted here, Kassala?" Kimm asks, regarding the girl thoughtfully.

Riohra grins happily, as he talks about the work he loves, "I haven't learned every tree by name yet as the saying goes but I am working on it." As he waits to hear what Kass's answer will be, he reaches up

Kassala shakes her head, "No, not posted here. Just making a delivery that had to come to the weyr after hearing Rio was here now from his family." Too much schooling yet to go for her, or so she thinks.

Kimmila smirks a bit at Riohra. "Well if any trees won't tell you their names; just tell them that Kimm sent you. They'll shape up." Whatever that means. "Ah," she says, nodding at Kassala. "Well, glad to have you for as long as you're here, then."

Riohra chuckles at the tree comment, placing his mug back near his map and then looks to Kassala "Do you want to explore? I can't say I am great guide but I know at least how to get to where the food is" priorities he has them.

Kimmila hops down off the boulder. "You two have fun," she says, tossing a jaunty wave to the pair before striding back towards the caverns, letting Varmiroth finish his bath in peace.

Kassala gives a departing wave to Kimmila and looks back at Riohra “If you have the time, I don’t mind as long as I don’t miss my ride” Turning to the bowl and waits to be escorted as she is still looking around at all the sights this new place has to offer.

Riohra grins and gathers up his map and mug “Oh I will make time, not every day a friend from the past just pops back into your life.” He starts walking with her toward the living cavern, grinning happily as he plays tour guide pointing out things as they go and spend the rest of the day together..
