Description
All contrasts—or all ambiguity? Can it be both? Fair cheekbones sharp as razors, dark eyes all liquid depth. Androgynous, especially with dark hair not quite grown out to collar-long, and a tendency to dress in oversized layers that require a certain amount of guesswork at the figure, except that Emiel is about five ten and exceptionally slim.
History
Emiel is the younger child of a Fortian brownrider and bluerider. Not the less-loved child, by any reasonable measure, but he had a complicated relationship with his older sister for most of their childhood and adolescence. She went and got married to a Healer and left the Weyr, which should have moved him up in his parents' estimation, but his mother was more involved with her work than her kids, and his father was short on bonding ideas once it turned out he had nothing in common with his son.
Nobody pushed too hard for Emiel to find a deep calling in life because so many of the family were chromatic riders that everyone assumed he'd stand at some point. He was still doing odd jobs when his sister left her husband and returned home, passing away not long after the birth of her daughter.
Despite a general disinterest in drinking, Emiel wound up tending bar because it meant evening work, and left him with days free to spend with his niece. His mother is somewhat concerned about his not enjoying his youth. His father is somewhat concerned about his not being in any condition to "properly" tackle candidacy and weyrlinghood but also not having any other long-term plans. Emiel is very concerned that nobody thinks he, at nineteen, is an appropriate permanent guardian for Aami, and that every other possible plan for her future is, as far as he's concerned, terrible.

Not Your Normal Nice Green Elynath
In a glimpse it is clear that this petite damsel dances on the edge of being slightly shorter and a little bit plumper, than that which is considered to be traditionally pretty. While she is small in stature, she’s stubby rather than svelte and her appeal lies firmly in character rather than outward form. Flashy and bright in color, mismatched features are brushed with strokes of vividly toxic green made still more outlandish by the smoky sweep of darker green around her eyes. More noticeable, perhaps, is the splotch of deeper green placed neatly on her cheekbone just beneath the stumpy left head knob, a beauty-mark for an untraditional beauty. The next most noticeable oddity comes in the fact that her head knobs are two distinctly different shades of green, one leaning just paler than her hide, the other shaded just slightly darker, as if somewhere along the way she forgot what color she was going with. Those same toxic green hues encompass all of her hide, punctuated by the deep hunter green along her wing spars and a paler, lemon-touched hue over the sails of her wings. While she is thick, particularly around her haunches, the unique coloration somehow manages to still make her look just slightly gaunt, shadows made darker by the color of her hide in the creases.
